A blow by blow account of Jeffrey Epstein’s death in jail

Jeffrey Epstein’s arrest and death were one of the biggest news stories (and internet conspiracies) to come out of 2019. While many people are pretty sure it’s a suicide, there are enough odd things to lend credence to some of the conspiracy theories out on the internet. Debating the validity of those theories, however, is not why you’re here.

Instead, let’s talk about the events that led to Jeffrey Epstein’s death in jail. This quick blow by blow should give you a general idea what happened to Epstein on the night that he died. So take the conspiracy hats off because it’s all the facts up in here right now.

Epstein was found semi-conscious in his cell with injuries to his neck. When speaking to his lawyer, Epstein said that he was assaulted by his cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione. Tartaglione, of course, denied these charges. An internal investigation by the prison would later clear him.

The common belief is that this was a failed suicide attempt on the part of Epstein. Following Epstein’s return to prison, he was placed on suicide watch for the next six days. He was placed with a different cellmate and guards checked on him every 30 minutes to make sure he didn’t hurt himself.

In the weeks leading up to his death, Epstein reportedly dropped funds into the accounts of fellow prisoners, trying to buy favor/protection. In a note found near Epstein’s body after his death, he complained about the guards, saying that he was served burnt food and locked into the shower for an hour with his clothes on.

Jeffrey Epstein signs in his last will and testament in the presence of two lawyers that knew him. His will named two employees as executors and immediately gifted any and all assets to a trust.

As stated above, Epstein was supposed to have a cellmate and guards check on him every 30 minutes per the protocols of his suicide watch. For whatever reason, this was not followed on the night of his death. In fact, a lot of things went a bit odd on the night that Epstein died.

Epstein’s cellmate was transferred and no one brought a replacement in. During this night in particular, guards did not perform the required 30-minute welfare check on Epstein. In addition, the guards meant to check on his cell overnight, fell asleep, and later falsified records. Three cameras near his cell malfunctioned, so there was no footage as well.

Epstein met with his lawyers in the evening on Aug. 9 and was escorted back to his cell at 7:49pm. CCTV shows that the guards did not perform the normal 10pm institutional count, but one of the cameras did show a guard walk near Epstein’s cell at 10:30pm. This is the last time a guard is confirmed to have checked on Epstein. Again, this is a defiance of the suicide watch protocols.

Per the usual morning routine, guards were distributing breakfast to the inmates at 6:30am on Aug. 10. When they arrived at Epstein’s cell, they found him unresponsive from cardiac arrest. He was reportedly found in a kneeling position with a strip of bed sheet wrapped around his neck. Guards performed CPR on Epstein with inmates reporting hearing them telling Epstein to breathe.

At 6:33am, guards pulled the alarm and notified their supervisor of the incident. Epstein was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead by 6:39am. His body was transported to the medical examiner’s office soon after.

Epstein is believed to have died approx. two hours before the discovery of his body. So this places his death around 4:30am on Aug. 10. There are several major issues with the handling of Epstein’s body, such as the removal from the cell, failure to preserve the scene, and the prison personnel never photographed Epstein’s body as it was found.

And that’s pretty much in terms of a blow by blow of Epstein’s death while in jail. While there are so many conspiracy theories out there, there’s enough strangeness to see where some people are getting these ideas.
