Why did TikTok star Dixie D’Amelio break down on TV?
“So heavy lies the crown”. “Fame comes with a price”. “Fame is a poison most would drink happily despite the warning of a slow and miserable death”. All of these quotes seem applicable to both Dixie and Charli D’Amelio, a pair of sisters who have launched to fame via the social media service TikTok, where the pair have made a slew of entertaining dance and other videos, especially during COVID-19.
In fact, aside from Addison Rae, the two sisters might be the most well-known names on the internet, especially considering how they now have their own docuseries titled The D’Amelio Show, which is currently streaming on Hulu and Disney+ and highlights the pair’s lives inside and outside of TikTok, as well as showing how cruelly the world treats the pair for simply doing what they’ve always wanted . . . becoming famous.
Even if you’ve become annoyed with the “social influencer” era, it’s important to recognize, amongst all the annoying videos and spam, that these are kids who are receiving so much criticism. We remember what it’s like being picked on in high school; imagine having the whole world pick on you on a daily basis? That seems to be where Dixie D’Amelio from TikTok is today, and it’s absolutely disgusting to hear.
Dixie bullied
In a slew of clips that have gone viral online from their surprisingly touching Hulu docuseries, Dixie D’Amelio can be seen breaking down and crying to her parents after reading hate comments about her online. Below are some of the quotes offered by the TikTok star, who’s seemingly struggling to live in the public eye, a place perhaps that she thought she always wanted to be.
“It makes me feel like I don’t deserve anything. I’m trying to do everything I can to better myself, and it just gets worse. They break up every single thing I do and make it a negative thing,” Dixie says in the video. “I literally come back from the gym and they post a video of that 15-second clip and they’re like ‘oh my god, she’s so musty and I’m like ‘shut the f**k up!’”.
This specific reaction was related to a video Dixie D’Amelio did for Vogue earlier in the year, where this viable brand followed the TikTok star around at the gym, at a wardrobe fitting, and at a local L.A. studio where Dixie was working on new music. “Everyone just picks apart everything I say and do and the way I look. I went to the gym! I know it’s just people’s opinion but it hurts so much,” Dixie D’Amelio noted.
Fans of Dixie fight for her
Lucky for Dixie D’Amelio, she has plenty of fans who support the TikTok star in her efforts, pleading for her to notice the good and push aside all of the hate. Here are a few things that some of her fans want her to know:
“Reading these comments after seeing how much they affected her in the documentary hurts,” one wrote. Another added: “Dixie doesn’t deserve the hate on this video. She was given an opportunity and she took it. You don’t know what people go through after getting all this hate.”
“I love that Dixie is just so real,” commented one fan. “She is just so amazing. She is very underrated. I get sad when people hate on her because she’s just human like she has emotions. I hate when people tear her down because it tears her mental health down.”
