In the past, Titop Island was called by locals “Red Cross Island” or “Cemetery Island” in memory of the French sailors who lost their lives in a shipwreck incident in 1905 at Con Coc Cove and were buried on Titop Island.
Only later, the island was renamed Titop, derived from the name of a Soviet cosmonaut, Gherman Stepanovich Titov, when he arrived on this island with President Ho Chi Minh in 1962.
