Who’s being recast in ‘Ant Man 3’? Delve into the exciting news

We know Ant-Man 3 is on its way, with franchise stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas set to return for this third installment, but did you know that there’s been an official recast for one of this franchises’ characters?

Our patience is shrinking here, Marvel.

Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Making his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in 2015 in his own titular film, Ant-Man, the character of Scott Lang became quickly beloved by fans of this connected universe of heroes, most likely due to the comedic style & charisma in which Paul Rudd brought to the role.

Ant-Man also brought in Hollywood vet Michael Douglas for the role of Hank Pym, a scientist as well as the original Ant-Man along with his wife, Janet, otherwise known as “the Wasp” who was tragically lost in the mysterious “Quantum realm” after sacrificing herself to disarm a nuclear weapon.

Pym’s daughter, Hope (played by Lost’s Evangeline Lilly) helped train Scott Lang, Pym’s successor to the Ant-Man persona, before taking on the mantle of the Wasp herself in the 2018 sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp

Ant-Man in Avengers: Endgame

(Spoilers ahead)

After the Mad Titan, Thanos, completes his mission at the end of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, wiping out half of the universe’s population, many of us fans were curious as to where Scott Lang, Hope, and the rest of the Ant-Man crew were amidst the chaos.

However, we only had to wait a few months later to learn that answer, as we sat down in our movie theater seats and watched Ant-Man and the Wasp. The film ends with Hank Pym successfully recovering his lost wife & partner-in-crime Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer) inside of the Quantum realm, only to be snapped away along with Hope & Janet by Thanos, leaving Scott to dangle inside the Quantum realm with nobody to let him out.

Lucky for Scott, a scavenging rodent is able to trip over a Quantum device that was tucked away in some garage in San Francisco which was able to release him, five-years after “the snap”.

After learning what had happened while he was trapped inside of the Quantum realm, the first place he ran to was back to his home. To his immense relief, he learns his daughter, Cassie, was on the side of those that were spared from “the snap”.

Ant-Man then helps the Avengers recover the infinity stones, after presenting Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) with the idea of time travel, having experienced the Quantum realm for as long as he did. Thanos is ultimately defeated once the team is able to bring back all that were perished in “the snap”, including Hope who joined Scott on the battlefield.

Ant-Man 3 casting

Last week, during Disney Investor Day, we learned Ant-Man 3, helmed once more by director Peyton Reed, would be officially titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and would see the return of franchise regulars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Fans also learned they’d meet Kang the Conqueror, played by Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors.

Later on, however, fans would learn another piece of interesting casting news, as outlets reported the role of Cassie, first played by Abby Ryder Fortson in the two Ant-Man films and then actress Emma Fuhrmann in Avengers: Endgame, given the five-year time jump, was filled.

We now know the role of older Cassie has been recast once more, now to be played by Freaky actress Kathryn Newton, in a move that left fans curious of the Studio’s casting, given the impact Fuhrmann’s performance had in Avengers: Endgame when she reunited with her father whom she presumed dead.

Easily one of the film’s more touching moments.

It’s unclear as to how big of a role Newtons’ Cassie Lang will play in Quantumania, but we’ll be curiously waiting to see what the Big Little Lies star will bring to the character.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is expected to hit theatres in 2022.
