Is Meek Mill disrespecting Kobe? Why Vanessa Bryant is getting vocal on IG
Rapper Meek Mill’s new track was accidentally leaked to the public last week, and it contains a lyric involving Kobe Bryant and his tragic passing last year. Now, after much backlash involving the track, Vanessa Bryant has added her two cents on IG regarding Meek Mill’s lyrics about her late husband.
It’s crazy to think it’s officially been over a year since Kobe Bryant tragically died in a helicopter accident in Calabasas, California, which also claimed the life of his thirteen-year-old daughter Gianna, as well as the lives of seven others, including the pilot of Kobe Bryant. Do you really need a song or even a lyric that reminds us of this tragedy?
Let’s take a closer look at the full story to see why much of the world, including Vanessa Bryant, is up in arms regarding this new Meek Mill track.
Kobe Byrant’s death
On Sunday, January 26th, 2020, it was reported that a helicopter had crashed in the city of Calabasas, roughly thirty miles northwest of Los Angeles. Soon after, it was tragically noted that one of the passengers on this crash was none other than Laker legend, Kobe Bryant. While rumors began to circulate for over an hour as to who else perished in the crash, including Kobe’s entire family, it was finally confirmed who else was on board.
Bryant’s thirteen-year-old daughter, Gianna, was also a victim of this tragic accident, as well as seven others, including the pilot. The passengers were on their way to a basketball tournament, taking off from John Wayne Airport en route to Camarillo Airport. It was noted by the community how foggy the air was that day in Calabasas.
Everyone on the Sikorsky S-76B helicopter was killed immediately on impact. Such a terrible tragedy.
Meek Mill’s new track
Rapper Meek Mill, who’s been the victim of multiple controversies in the past, found that his new track “Don’t Worry” was accidentally leaked to the public last week. The track also features rapper Lil Baby.
In the song, Meek Mill says the following lyrics: “This b!+$% I’m f#$&!*’ always tell me that she love me / But she ain’t ever showed me / Yeah, and if I ever lack, I’m goin’ out with my chopper / It be another Kobe.”
Since then, both the track & the lyrics have been wiped from social media, including Twitter & IG. However, perhaps these efforts were too little too late, as Meek Mill has faced much criticism on IG for his “Don’t Worry” lyrics, being called out for disrespecting Kobe Bryant as well as his family.
Vanessa Bryant claps back
Vanessa Bryant, the widow of the late Kobe Bryant, responded to the Meek Mill lyric on IG on Monday night, stating the following in her IG post: “Dear @meekmill, I find this line to be extremely insensitive and disrespectful. Period. I am not familiar with any of your music, but I believe you can do better than this. If you are a fan, fine, there’s a better way to show your admiration for my husband.”
It did not take much longer for Meek Mill to respond to Vanessa Bryant’s post, claiming that the two already worked things out earlier in the day. Meek Mill said the following on his Twitter account:
“I apologized to her in private earlier today, not to the public . . . Nothing I say on my page directed to a internet viral moment or the family of a grieving woman! If you care about someone grieving change the subject!”
