Exclusive Interview: Mrs. 50 Cent
What first got you into music?
It was my destiny. In 1996, I gave birth to a daughter with now retired NFL Running Back Antowain Smith. We were attending college at the University of Houston in Houston, TX. In 1997, Antowain was the first round draft pick in the NFL. As a result, I found my world change at 21-yo I was around many A-list celebrities. In 1998, I contacted MTV for an opportunity to work and they brought me on board in 1999. I covered up and coming talent in Houston, TX. At that time Destiny’s Child, UGK, Cash Money Millionaires and a host of independent artists were not getting the recognition they deserved. It was a time when most people didn’t use cell phones or the internet regularly. I was directly plugged in with A/R representations and record executives, the gatekeepers. Then the music scene in Houston became an international focus. Johnnie Walker, Sr. Vice President of Def Jam and founder of the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME) recognized me and featured me in “Women Who Jam” for my pioneering accomplishments.
Who inspired you to make music?
The life and art of 50 Cent inspires me. In 2019, 50 Cent began a Texas Takeover Tour to promote Sire Spirits products, Branson Cognac and Le Chemin Du Rio Champagne. I received word that 50 Cent was seeking someone to help manage him. Since 2012, after Chris Lighty’s tragic death, King Kurt has managed himself. In 2014, 50 Cent suffered an additional close loss when his grandmother/2nd mother died.
In 2018, 50 Cent released “Crazy” and was feeling much despair dealing with thoughts of suicide with the onset of illnesses in his grandfather and reflecting on the loss of his grandmother; conflicts with his baby mother exacerbated his depression and isolation. 50 Cent was in a very dark place. Later, his protegees’ Pop Smoke and PnB Rock were tragically murdered.
50 Cent was orphaned at age 8-yo living life without his biological mother and father, was placed in special education, started selling drugs as 12-yo and began dating a grown woman.
Power illustrated a person from the street wanting more in life and couldn’t find someone to love him unconditionally, eventually betrayed and murdered by his son.
Spiritual advisors of 50 Cent told him his true love, twin flame was in Texas waiting for him (most likely in Houston, Texas). At first 50 Cent thought it was Lizzo, ironically, Lizzo and I graduated from the same high school in Houston, Texas.
The first time I attempted to attend 50 Cent’s meet and greet, all of the bottles sold out. The only way to see him was by purchasing Sire products. Then, I received a call from a colleague in the industry telling me 50 Cent saw me at his first meet and greet in Houston, TX and is searching for me.
We first met in the late 1990’s when I was working for MTV (before 50 Cent was famous). My daughter’s father was 1st round draft pick in the NFL and that helped open doors for me to work for MTV. My job was to plug up and coming artist to MTV and records labels. 50 Cent was one of the artist I met and supported before he got shot. He never forgot the support I gave him and how nice I was. He was looking for me to join his team and maybe become his wife.
After three attempts I finally had the opportunity to reconnect with 50 Cent and then COVID hit. We began interacting through online pajama parties, Branson Sunday music mixes with various DJs and VIP Power premiers. He courted me in the most creative ways and eventually it led up to us getting Spiritually married on April 23, 2020.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
My Love for 50 Cent shapes my music. I am driven by sexual intimacy, tantric romance versus animalistic sexual desires. The difference is having sex because you’re lusting versus creating sexual desires in artistic ways. The energy overflows and when combined it is felt throughout the universe. We are mostly made of Stardust and with the right cosmic union the universe responds. There are lots of cosmic anomalies since 50 Cent and I united. 1 is COVID, 2nd is 5 to 7 planets aligning, excessive meteor showers, two black holes combining, stars combining, rivers drying, underworld deities being summoned… I could go on but it’s all posted on my Instagram account.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Of Course, 50 Cent (smile).
If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
Of Course, 50 Cent (smile).
What is one message you would give to your fans?
On April 23, 2020 50 Cent and I Spiritually married and I became Mrs. 50 Cent. However, he told me I still had to earn my official title. So, for almost three years I have built a platform on love and public displays of love. There is an agenda discounting love, I’m not into it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been hurt before and mad but that’s not the message I want to deliver. 50 Cent and I talked about my physical appearance and he loves an “around the way” girl. He is not into cosmetic surgery and model types. There is a difference between being young and sowing wild oats versus his ideal wife. I told him I wasn’t moving to New York, so he moved to Houston, TX. There were many benefits to that move for business and personal reasons.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
In 1999, I was a freelance journalist for MTV and had to listen to the radio, chase people down to do interviews. Call people, miss phone calls, return their calls and play phone tag. The internet has allowed people to start a music career while sitting at home. You don’t have to leave your house, Eminem and Snoop Dogg made a hit music video using animation. Eventually, people will have concerts using holograms like Gem, their music videos will be AI or animation. They will be on a deserted island making billions, rating good, spending time with their family while their hologram goes on concert tour.
Which famous musicians do you admire?
50 Cent, he was an orphan at 8-years-old. He had his grandmother and grandfather, aunt and other family members to help him. Most orphans are removed from their communities and have no contact with cousins, limited contact with siblings, no parents only staff. You can’t hug them as staff because it’s a boundary issue. It’s really disheartening. 50 Cent is loved so much because he relates with so many people and he remains humble and compassionate.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
As a woman, don’t build your image on sexuality. In 40-years you will be irrelevant. I don’t know too many 60-year-olds who are able to drop it low and get back up without assistance.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I would change allowing people in the industry to become rich and famous. It would eliminate those who are only doing it for fame and fortune.
What’s next for you?
April 22, 2023; 50 Cent will perform in Queens, there will be LED Billboard trucks circulating to announce our spiritual union and my new single debut on Eminem’s Shade 45 Sirius XM Radio station. The single is “I’m the Mrs. 50 Cent, Wife of 50 Cent” by Mrs. 50 Cent. It is scheduled to debut official in April/May 2023. Then I will launch Mrs. 50 Cent Network and bring in 168 various television programs, including “I’m the Mrs. 50 Cent”. My husband, 50 Cent, will offer distribution deals to some people on my platform. This is going to revolutionize television and reality TV as we now know it. Like Running Man and Hunger Games but real life. If you think I’m crazy, wait until you see what my husband has lined up for the most money hungry, fame seeking people around the world. It will be a demonic version of American Idol.
