Why Greenhouse farming is gaining popularity in Kenya

Greenhouses are used as an alternative, especially in matters to do with food security. Drought has been a considerable challenge, especially in African countries; thus, such an initiative works best to their advantage. There are, therefore, many advantages of greenhouses in Kenya.

Water conservation

Greenhouses play a huge role in water conservation. Some parts of Kenya are arid, meaning water is scarce in such areas. Scarce water makes it difficult for farmers to grow crops, thus leading to very adverse effects such as hunger and death since there is no food and water, considering that water is life. Greenhouses have played an enormous role in conserving the little water available in most of the country since they only require minimal water for crop production.

Intensify food production

Greenhouses have continued to amplify food production as they have modified conditions to boost crop growth no matter the environment they are located. Food production has increased over the years due to this development in Kenya. Many semi-arid and arid areas are now engaging in farming activities due to greenhouses, thus reducing hunger.

Creation of job opportunities

Many citizens have continued to gain job opportunities around the country, thus boosting economic growth. Acquiring employment has continued to be a massive task for Kenyan people, but with such developments, there is hope that the future is bright.

Control of pests and diseases

Greenhouses provide a barrier which acts as an s control for pests and diseases; this, in turn, reduces the use of chemical pesticides, which ensures that the crops being grown are of higher quality. When crops are of higher quality, there definitely will be maximum production.

All-time season growth

A greenhouse in Kenya provides produce at all times. Thus, the supply of food from a greenhouse is constant and hence can be relied on, unlike other food production methods where one has to rely on natural factors, thus making consistency a challenge.

Soil erosion reduction

Soil is exceptionally preserved in this method since there is not much cultivation which destroys the topsoil. Topsoil is essential for agricultural sustainability.

Conclusion

Greenhouses have been of very great help and should be primarily adopted even further. Food security is a vital issue; therefore, anything that aligns with it should be used, especially in African countries such as Kenya.
