Broasted Chicken Recipe

Broasted chicken is a type of fried chicken that is made using a special cooking technique. It is a trademarked term owned by the Broaster Company, which was founded in 1954 and specializes in manufacturing pressure fryers that are used to make broasted chicken.

To make broasted chicken, chicken pieces are marinated in a special seasoning mix, then coated in a seasoned flour mixture and pressure-fried in a broaster. The broasting process uses a combination of pressure and high temperature to cook the chicken quickly, resulting in a crispy and juicy chicken with a distinct flavor.

Broasted chicken has gained popularity around the world and is often found on the menu of fast-food chains, restaurants, and food trucks. It is typically served with sides such as fries, coleslaw, or mashed potatoes.

Broasted Chicken vs Usual Fried Chicken

Broasted chicken and usual fried chicken are both popular ways to cook chicken, but they differ in cooking technique and resulting flavor and texture. Here’s a simple broasted chicken recipe that you can try at home:

Ingredients:

  • 8-10 chicken pieces (a mix of drumsticks, thighs, and wings)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, basil, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside.
  • Pour the buttermilk into a separate bowl. Dip each chicken piece into the buttermilk, then roll it in the flour mixture until it is evenly coated. Place the coated chicken pieces on a plate.
  • Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot over medium-high heat. The oil should be hot enough to fry the chicken but not too hot that it burns.
  • Place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry the chicken for about 10-12 minutes, until it is golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the chicken from the oil and drain it on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Serve the broasted chicken hot with your favorite sides.

Note: If you don’t have a broaster, you can use a deep fryer or a heavy pot for frying. However, the cooking time may vary depending on the equipment you use.
