Acne Face Wash: Foaming vs Gel Formulas Compared

Acne is often a stubborn and frustrating problem for many individuals that is truly a problem as dealing with it becomes a tedious task. Choosing the right acne face wash for an acne prone skin is an important step for managing acne breakouts. Among all the cleansers two formulations are mostly recommended for acne clearance.

Gel and foaming cleansers are the most common and popular choice of face washes for acne. They both help in clearing the pores and excess sebum which leads to acne but both have a different cleansing action. It is important to choose the best one for your skin to get rid of acne.

Foaming cleansers produce a light and airy lather which works to lift off the impurities like excess oil, dirt and other buildup from the pores. It works quite well for oily skin as it completely clears the heavy impurities from the skin.

Whereas gel cleansers on the other hand have a light and non-sticky water based consistency. It has a jelly-like structure that usually glides over the surface of the skin and lifts off the impurities gently from the skin. It has a gentle cleansing action and does not strip moisture from the skin.

The reason behind acne occurrence

Acne breakouts are a result of clogged pores on the skin ideally. It occurs when the sebaceous glands start producing sebum in excess and this sebum sits on the surface. When the sebum gets mixed with impurities like sweat and dirt it could form hard plugs and result in skin congestion. The dead skin cells which do not shed and sit on the surface could also clog the pores.

These clogged pores create an oxygen deprived environment which is suitable for acne causing bacteria to thrive. It leads to formation of inflamed acne breakouts on the face. Makeup and sunscreen buildup which does not clear could also contribute to clogged pores. Hormonal imbalance in the body makes acne breakouts worse as it increases the sebum production.

Gel cleansers for cleansing

Gel cleansers are water based formulations which have a jelly-like structure. The water based formulation of gels allow them to glide over the surface and cleanse the impurities like oil and dirt smoothly from the surface of the skin. It mostly uses mild cleansing agents for delivering a cleansing action and it could be a foaming or non-foaming formulation.

Gel cleansers are suitable for acne prone skin because they do not strip the skin layer or harshly cleanse the skin. These cleansers wipe off the oil and other impurities gently from the face. It helps in keeping the skin barrier intact as well. It helps in reducing the acne breakouts when formulated with right anti-acne ingredients and does not cause any skin irritation or redness.

Foaming cleansers for acne

Foaming cleansers begin with liquid or cream base which upon mixing with water and application generate rich lather. This lather is soft and has deep cleansing action for the pores. The lather can go into pores on application and helps in cleansing the skin. It lifts off the dirt, oil, and other buildup from the pores and washes them off while rinsing because of the presence of surfactants.

It is a lightweight formulation which spreads well on the face due to its foaming ability and cleanse deeply. They are effective for people with extremely oily skin as the foam lifts off the heavy sebum from the pores and clears the skin properly without leaving any residues. Foaming cleansers give a clear skin post rinse and wipes off all the impurities along with foam.
