Indie Movie of the Day: ‘Third Act’

Today we’re focusing on the exceptional film Third Act from filmmakers Leon Mayne & Olan Collardy as our indie movie of the day. This is their third project as partners.

Layered with hidden messages, the story begins with three friends embarking on a new venture in podcasting. A humble setting for conversation quickly yields tension-filled exchanges between the friends, opening a sequence of events that reveal the secrets in their respective relationships. It’s available to stream now over at YouTube.

Leon Mayne is an award-winning writer and producer. His work, especially in providing richly detailed characters, has earned him a feature in Powerful Media’s 2015 edition of Britain’s most influential people of African and African Caribbean Heritage and BBC’s 2017 New Talent Hotlist. He is the cofounder of production company BWNG Ltd, who have series currently broadcast on TV & SVOD platforms in over 60 territories worldwide.

The digital and TV series he has written and/or produced include multi-award-winning Brothers With No Game (London Live, TRACE, Canal Plus), The Colour Brown (Channel 4 Script commission), and Binge Watching (BBC4 & BFI).

Olan Collardy is a creator and cinematographer. The diversity of his work is exemplified from a range of television/web drama series to his separate work with a client base of brands within fashion, lifestyle and luxury. His accolades include Vimeo Short of The Week, BFI Future Film Festival, and a Sundance Film Festival selection.

Collardy & Mayne worked on Brothers With No Game, an award-winning comedy drama about four friends going through a quarter-life crisis as they juggle the responsibilities of career, family, friendship, and dating.

They also collaborated on How Did We Get Here?, a short-form drama series that follows a complicated love affair between childhood sweethearts Dewale and Imani. Dewale, is a talented musician, is in the honeymoon stage of a relationship with a fellow artist, while Imani is in the corporate world and engaged. They stumble across each other 5 years after their relationship had ended post-university, and very quickly discover their feelings have yet to subside.
