About Vijay
Born in a Roman Catholic family on 22nd June, 1974, he was originally known as Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar. His birth took place in the capital city of Tamil Nadu- Chennai. Vijay completed his schooling from Balalok School in Virugambakkam. After this, Vijay went to Loyola College in Chennai where he completed his bachelors in Visual Communication.
About Vijay’s Family
Vijay was born to S.A. Chandrasekhar (father) and Shoba Chandrasekhar (mother). His father himself worked as a film director and was quite popular. His mother, too, worked in the entertainment industry. She is a playback singer as well as a Carnatic vocalist. In his early days, Vijay was an extremely active, energetic and talkative child. However, things took an unfortunate turn when his 2 year old sister passed away. Vijay became extremely reserved as a child and it took some time for him to become normal and happy again.
Vijay met Sangeetha, his wife, during an event. Following this, things started to get interesting between the two and the couple got married on 25th August, 1999. Today, they are parents to a daughter-son duo named Divya and Jason.
About Vijay’s Work
The road to success is not always easy. However, the key to success is hardwork and perseverance. This is what can be learnt from Vijay’s career as well. In his initial days as an actor, Vijay gave 4 flops on the trot following his debut film. It was only in 1996 that he achieved success with the release of his film Poove Unakkaga. Vijay proved his mettle in action films and then even went on to do romantic films.
Thirumalai, a romantic action film co-starring Thirumalai went on to be a great hit. This movie opened new avenues for Vijay and led him from one blockbuster movie to the other. He got to work with directors like Dharani, A.R. Murugadoss. Vijay has given several blockbuster movies like Ghilli, Pokkiri, Kaththi, Theri, Mersal & has worked with several national & international actors.
Vijay’s Social Work Life
Vijay is not only a brilliant actor, but also an extremely humble and loving human being. He supports various social causes like aiding in the education of the poor and disabled children, raising public awareness, etc. He also has his own social welfare institute named Vijay Makkal Iyakkam. It is known for providing support during several natural calamities like the Thane cyclone in 2011, Kerala floods in 2018. Vijay has received several accolades for his contribution to the society including an honorary doctorate in 2007 from M.G.R Institute.
Vijay endorses several brands and has the largest face spread in Tamil Nadu after the legendary actor Rajnikath. Thus, Vijay certainly justifies as to why he is considered the mass actor in world.
