Our Revolution calls for Schumer to step aside after blue wave

Progressive victories across Senate battlegrounds and Republican-held House districts have delivered a mandate to confront corruption, challenge corporate power and advance an ambitious working-class agenda, according to Our Revolution. The political organization founded by Senator Bernie Sanders but now independent called the results a vindication of a decade of grassroots organizing and a warning to the establishment of both parties against returning to business as usual. The group urged Democrats to use their new congressional power to hold Trump accountable, fight for concrete economic gains and get big money out of politics while calling on Chuck Schumer to step aside as Senate Democratic leader.

Joseph Geevarghese, Executive Director of Our Revolution, highlighted specific progressive candidates and races. These included Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, Troy Jackson in Maine, James Talarico in Texas, Sam Forstag in Montana, Randy Villegas in California and Bob Brooks in Pennsylvania. The statement noted that progressives flipped Republican seats and won critical battlegrounds where pundits had said their politics could never compete.

Our Revolution credited a decade of grassroots organizing, voter contacts and its theory of change for the outcome. The organization made five million voter contacts in the primaries and another five million in the general election. Grassroots volunteers from the Democratic Party’s base took the time to fight back against unprecedented corruption and attacks on working people, vindicating the view that organized people can beat organized money when advancing an anti-corporate, working-class agenda.

The statement addressed oligarchy, noting that working-class people understood corporate power and its consequences in daily life with landlords, insurance companies or employers holding more power than individuals. It framed the election as the corruption election where affordability was central but people also asked why life keeps getting more expensive and who keeps cashing in. From AI and data centers to healthcare, Big Pharma, crypto, oil and the war industry, people want a say over decisions made at their expense, with corporate control of government making lives harder.

Our Revolution critiqued Trump for promising to fight for working people then handing billionaires the keys to government while pursuing personal enrichment. AIPAC, Elon Musk and other billionaires and corporate interests poured money into shaping politics, yet the victories showed their money does not make their agenda inevitable. The results expose deep cracks in the MAGA movement that could become a fatal blow to his false populism if Democrats earn trust by delivering.

The blue wave was powered by a progressive wave, positioning the movement as the center of gravity in the Democratic Party with intent to drive the agenda. People deserve a new New Deal including a $25 living wage, stronger unions, affordable housing, taxes on billionaires and a sustained fight for Medicare for All. They deserve public money invested in communities instead of senseless wars and sweetheart deals for the wealthy, plus getting big money out of politics so interests blocking change cannot keep writing the rules.

The statement outlined recommendations for congressional action and accountability measures. Democrats should use every committee, hearing and budget negotiation, follow contracts and conflicts of interest, put executives and administration officials under oath and fight for concrete gains while making Trump answer for what he blocks. Leadership must match that ambition, and Chuck Schumer should step aside. Bernie Sanders has provided the clarity and urgency a real opposition party needs. Angie Nixon’s campaign in Florida and Scott Colom’s close race in Mississippi demand a reckoning with opportunities national Democrats underestimated. The warning reaches corporate Democrats who cannot campaign against corruption while protecting their own donors’ influence.

The people organized for change and to win, now they organize to make Democrats deliver, the statement concluded. Our Revolution is America’s largest grassroots independent political organizing group, born out of Senator Bernie Sanders’s 2016 presidential campaign. It focuses on mobilizing communities, electing progressive champions, advocating for progressive policies and transforming the Democratic Party to serve people, not corporate interests.
