Nixon, Stratton, McKinney, Lawrence win One Fair Wage Action endorsement
One Fair Wage Action, the political arm of a major national organization representing more than 300,000 restaurant and service workers, has endorsed Florida U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon, Illinois U.S. Senate candidate Juliana Stratton, and Michigan U.S. House candidates Donavan McKinney and William Lawrence. These endorsements recognize the candidates' support for policies that address worker compensation. They form a key component of One Fair Wage Action’s campaign to influence the upcoming midterm elections by promoting candidates committed to raising pay for service industry employees across multiple states.
The endorsements occur against a backdrop of rising costs associated with housing, groceries, healthcare, and other basic necessities that are dominating voter concerns in this election. With Election Day only days away, the candidates have emphasized the importance of increasing wages as a critical strategy to combat the affordability crisis. They argue that boosting paychecks represents a fundamental part of any comprehensive approach to making daily life more affordable for American families.
The endorsements are part of One Fair Wage Action’s “25 For $25” campaign. This initiative supports 25 candidates across 13 states who advocate for the Living Wage For All Act. The federal legislation would raise the minimum wage gradually until it reaches $25 an hour. It would also eliminate subminimum wages, including the special lower rate for tipped workers. Once implemented, tipped employees would be paid the full minimum wage by their employers, and they would keep their tips on top of that base amount. This structure aims to ensure that one job provides sufficient income for workers to live on without relying solely on gratuities.
One Fair Wage Action is putting its national worker network into action to aid the endorsed candidates. With more than 300,000 members from the restaurant and service sectors, the group will organize peer-to-peer voter outreach efforts. Workers will connect with their coworkers and others in the industry to promote voting for candidates who are dedicated to increasing wages. This mobilization seeks to leverage personal networks within the service industry to boost turnout and support for the endorsed individuals.
After the election concludes, One Fair Wage Action will focus on advocacy to ensure that endorsed candidates who win their races follow through on their promises. The organization plans to push for the Living Wage For All Act to be treated as a Day One priority for House passage in the next Congress. This step would advance the goal of establishing a higher federal minimum wage without delay.
