Fancy a quickie? Oakland’s Brief Erotic Short Film Competition is swift but satisfying
Now in its seventh year, Oakland’s Brief Erotic Short Film Competition offers a liberating celebration of sex positivity by exploring the limits of erotic filmmaking in short, sharp bursts. Showcasing a dazzling array of provocative sensual delights, the film festival screens erotic short films of only six minutes or less bringing a whole new level of meaning to the word “quickie”. As well as celebrating erotica as an art form, the festival is also inclusive to people of all sexual orientations and gender identities with a program and event that welcomes and embraces the LGBTQI community.
For 2018 the festival will be taking place on May 10 at the Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland where a 7.30pm hosted showcase will screen submissions, while a later 9:30pm showcase will screen the films without a host. The Brief Erotic Short Film Competition also celebrates winning films within a set of categories as eager to applaud the craft of a great film as they are thirsty as hell. From Best Cinematography and Best Acting Performance to Best Orgasm and Most Likely to Make You Want to Fuck, the categories at the Brief Erotic Short Film Competition aren’t your usual array of accolades but they’re infinitely more fascinating.
While audience members are invited to vote for their own personal favorite film (for the Audience Choice Award), the festival also has a judging panel featuring a strong team of industry professionals. In 2018 that panel includes feminist pornographer and founder of Erotic Film School Madison Young; dirty-movie maker and founder of the “Ask First” consent campaign Maxine Holloway; eLine founder and writer & producer of Marriage 2.0 Viktor Belmont; CEO of edibles company Leisure Life Magnus Sullivan; Supernova Women co-founder Amber Senter; and new judge Andre Shakti.
Hosts Jamie DeWolf & Nazelah Jamison will be hosting the event that will include a raucous after party featuring controversial burlesque dance performances and wild interactive audience games, bringing the festival out of the theater and into the local community. So what do you say – fancy a quickie? Because you’ll find a few of them at Oakland’s Brief Erotic Short Film Competition.
