Coronavirus outbreak: Chinese virologist claims it was lab created

Reports of it have been banned by scientists and pooh-poohed as conspiracy theorists’ ravings, yet proof appears to be surfacing that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, better known as COVID–19, was actually created in a lab.

Suspicious smokescreen

Dr. Li–Meng Yan, a Chinese virologist who has reportedly been in hiding over fear for her safety, has stepped out into the public eye again to make the explosive claim that she has scientific evidence to prove the coronavirus was human-made in a lab in China. Dr. Yan, a scientist who says she did some of the earliest research into COVID-19 last year, spoke on September 11 during a Loose Women talk show interview.

When asked where the deadly coronavirus outbreak that has killed more than 900,000 around the globe came from, Yan — speaking via video chat from a secret location — replied, “It comes from the lab — the lab in Wuhan and the lab is controlled by China’s government.” She insisted that widespread reports that the coronavirus outbreak originated last year from a wet market in Wuhan are “a smoke screen.”

“The first thing is the [meat] market in Wuhan . . .  is a smoke screen and this virus is not from nature,” Yan claimed, explaining that she got “her intelligence from the CDC in China, from the local doctors”.

Logical lies

Dr. Yan has previously accused Beijing of lying about when it learned of the coronavirus outbreak, and creating an extensive cover-up of her work – wiping it from government databases. Yan had said her former supervisors at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, a reference laboratory for the World Health Organization, silenced her when she sounded the alarm about human–to–human transmission in December 2019.

In March 2020, scientists out of California published a journal article in Nature Medicine mapping out the coronavirus’ genetic sequence which they say proves “SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus.” However, Dr. Yan’s research refutes that theory.

Exigent escape

Yan fled Hong Kong in April and escaped to America to spread the word about the outbreak. Now she has released scientific evidence to prove that the virus was human-made. “The genome sequence is like a human fingerprint,” Yan said on the talk show. “So based on this, you can identify these things. I use the evidence . . . to tell people why this has come from the lab in China, why they are the only ones who made it.”

Yan added, “Anyone, even if you have no biology knowledge, you can read it, and you can check & identify & verify by yourself.” On Monday, September 14, Dr. Yan, posted a paper on the open–access repository website Zenodo, that she claims shows how the coronavirus could be “conveniently created” in a laboratory setting in six months.

Viral modification

“This is the critical thing for us to know the origin of the virus,” Dr. Yan related. “If not, we cannot overcome it — it will be life-threatening for everyone.” Yan is coming out now because, “I know if I don’t tell the truth to the world, I will be regretful.”

Yan’s paper, co-authored with two others, is titled “Unusual Features of the SARS-CoV-2 Genome Suggesting Sophisticated Laboratory Modification Rather Than Natural Evolution & Delineation of Its Probable Synthetic Route.” It claims to note how “SARS–CoV–2 shows biological characteristics that are inconsistent with a naturally occurring, zoonotic virus”.

Yan also posted a link to her credentials on ResearchGate, revealing her prior affiliation with The University of Hong Kong, along with thirteen publications which have been cited 557 times.
