Mia Khalifa: Pornhub stars speaking out against the industry
Even though her career as an adult film actress was short-lived, with only 3 months and 11 films in total, Mia Khalifa remains as one of the most-searched-for performers on various porn sites. The Lebanese-American internet celebrity has been vocal about her traumatic experience in the past and the damage it has done to her mental health.
She recently posted a TikTok video of herself with the caption: “That hourly dissociative attack from remembering hundreds of millions of people’s only impression of you is solely based on the lowest, most toxic, most uncharacteristic 3 months of your life when you were 21.”
Nowadays, she works as a social media personality & sports commentator. But it’s clear that her time in the adult film industry has caused her deep distress. Here are some of the ways the industry has affected her over the years.
Mia Khalifa received death threats
In her most controversial video and the one that brought her attention from all over the world, Mia is seen performing sex acts while wearing a hijab. This piece of clothing is typically worn by Muslim women in order to conform to Islamic standards of modesty.
The video and the controversy surrounding it skyrocketed her to the top of the rankings in Pornhub. But it also led to her receiving death threats as well. This prompted her to retire after just three months due to the sheer amount of death threats that were being aimed at her.
Mia Khalifa’s videos have not been removed from porn sites
For years now, Mia has tried to remove all of her videos from various adult websites. She posted on Twitter: “I just want B*angbros to stop actively putting me in harm’s way by promoting my 6-year-old videos like they’re new, making millions of ppl think I’m still active.”
Mia has also stated that, “The death threats are emotionally crippling, I haven’t felt safe even going to the grocery store alone in years.”
The porn company Bangbros is still making money out of her videos and has filed a cease & desist against the actress, which was a response to her comments about the company. They’ve even set up a site dedicated to counter all of her claims.
The pay was not good
For being one of the most popular performers in the industry for some time now you’d think she would receive proper compensation. Unfortunately, the most Mia Khalifa has ever made from her time as an adult actress was a measly $12,000. Each scene was estimated to earn $1000.
It’s not worth it
A TikTok user, who goes by the name totallynotkaya, posted a video where she shared her interest in entering the porn industry: “When you realise Pornhub pays you 20k to be in a video without your face in it.” To which Mia replied, “Girl don’t do it . . . it’s not worth it [sic].”
It’s clear that Mia doesn’t want anyone else to have to go through what she did, and she warns others about the dangers of the industry. Mia shared a story on Instagram which read: “Those 11 videos will haunt me until I die, and I don’t want another girl to go through that – because no one should.”
A fan-led petition was made on change.org to remove all of Mia Khalifa’s videos and demand that her domain names be returned as well. The petition currently has over 1.8 million signatures.
