Will Uma Thurman return for ‘Kill Bill 3’? Here’s everything we know
Do hear those sirens, Tarantino fans? Those mean that we have news on the possible Volume 3 of Kill Bill. For those of you who don’t remember the early 00s, Kill Bill was a two-film series inspired by samurai films with Quentin Tarantino at the helm.
Starring Tarantino collaborator Uma Thurman, Kill Bill follows the Bride (Thurman) who swears revenge on a team of assassins and their leader Bill (David Carradine) after they attempt to kill the Bride and her unborn child.
While it’s main descriptor is that of a samurai film, Kill Bill is Tarantino’s homage to grindhouse cinema and blends martial arts film, blaxploitation, and spaghetti westerns. The end result leaves Kill Bill a stylish powerhouse with audiences hungry for more.
Kill Bill Vol. 2 sees the Bride leaving with her child B.B. (Perla Haney-Jardine) after completing her quest for revenge. Needless to say, it would be interesting to learn where a third film in the franchise would even go.
Here’s what we know about Kill Bill Vol. 3.
Is it even happening?
We’ll start with a clear answer. Nothing about Kill Bill Vol. 3 has been confirmed yet. The keyword in this is yet.
Rumors of Kill Bill Vol. 3 have swirled ever since Kill Bill Vol. 2 came out back in 2004. So that’s over a decade of rumors about this film. Recently, Tarantino has dropped hints that make us think and others think that there could be more Kill Bill coming.
On an appearance on Andy Cohen Live!, Tarantino admitted that a third film is “definitely in the cards”. He went on to say that he and Thurman had dinner recently and he has an idea for Kill Bill Vol. 3.
“I do have an idea of what I would with (Kill Bill Vol. 3). That was the whole thing, conquering the concept. What has happened to the Bride since then? And what do I want to do?”
Will Kill Bill Vol. 3 happen anytime soon?
The short and clear answer is no. If Kill Bill Vol. 3 were to happen, then it wouldn’t be for a couple of years.
In the same interview on Andy Cohen Live!, Tarantino said that he wants to take his time to focus on other projects. In fact, the director isn’t planning on making any film in the near future. What he does have in the pipeline is a script for a play and a five-episode TV series that he wrote after completing the script for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
When he does feel like it’s time to make Kill Bill Vol. 3, Tarantino wants it to be a good story for the Bride.
“The Bride has fought long and hard. I have an idea now that could be interesting. I still wouldn’t do it for a little bit. It would be at least three years from now. It is definitely in the cards.”
So, at minimum, fans of Kill Bill are looking at a couple of years wait for any momentum of Kill Bill Vol. 3.
What would Kill Bill Vol. 3 look like?
We have no idea about what goes on in Quentin Tarantino’s mind. We’re not mind readers. It would be cool if Kill Bill Vol. 3 had the Bride and an older B.B. working together. At the end of Kill Bill Vol. 2, B.B. was around four or five years old.
If Tarantino decides to follow the rules of time for Kill Bill Vol.3, then B.B. will be in her 20s about three years from now. So that’s a good age to go on a spree to take out assassins with her mom. You know that the Bride taught her some moves in the intervening years.
Either that or B.B. will be captured and her mom has to go get her back. As she played such a central role in Kill Bill Vol. 2, it makes sense to have B.B. involved in some fashion for the third film.
This is all speculation, however, but that sounds pretty cool to us.
