Is ‘Sex and the City”s Mr. Big guilty of sexual assault?
Mr. Big just can’t seem to escape the headlines this week! Not only has actor Chris Noth been doing damage control with the company Peloton after his character’s surprise event during HBO Max’s new series And Just Like That, a sequel to the original HBO series Sex and the City, but now Noth is being accused of sexual assault by multiple women. The report first came out from The Hollywood Reporter earlier this week.
In the story, the two women, both using pseudonyms, discuss their time with the actor, with one of them disclosing how her account with Mr. Big happened in 2004, when Noth tried to “rape” her as she tried to return a book to his apartment. She was twenty-four at the time. The other accuser disclosed her own 2015 encounter with Noth, claiming that he had sex with her “pretty forcibly”. Not good, Mr. Big . . . not good.
“The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false,” Noth responded to In Touch. “These stories could’ve been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago, no always means no, that is a line I did not cross. The encounters were consensual. It’s difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out.” Welp . . . we wonder how this will affect And Just Like That?

And Just Like That follows Carrie and her best friends Miranda & Charlotte as they navigate the complicated reality of life and friendship in their fifties. Kim Cattrall, who portrayed Samantha Jones on the series and both big-screen adaptations, opted not to return for the new series. This is not really a surprise to fans of the show, given Cattrall’s constant rumored on and off set drama with lead Sarah Jessica Parker.
In terms of the return of Mr. Big, played by actor Chris Noth, we’ll try to keep the spoilers to a minimum but let’s just say, regardless if the accusations of the Mr. Big actor are true or false we can only imagine the relief from HBO that his character will be sparingly included in the relaunch. However, we don’t want to lose too many of our favorite characters!
While fans may find it difficult to get used to a Sex and the City world without Samantha Jones, there’s no doubt that so many of us are ready to return to the city with our favorite girls as well as their men, especially when considering how they added Grey’s Anatomy’s Sara Ramirez to the cast. So, why such the huge success of And Just Like That? It has to be because we loved Sex and the City just so gosh darn much.

HBO’s Sex and the City ran for a total of six seasons, debuting in 1998 and ending its run in 2004. In the show, sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw and her three friends, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda, explore Manhattan’s dating scene, chronicling the luscious habits of single New Yorkers. Not surprisingly, the ladies have a number of sexy interests throughout the series’ run, all inevitably finding true love at some point.
After taking a short break, Carrie Bradshaw, Mr. Big, and the rest of the Sex and the City gang would hit the big screen for their first live-action movie, simply titled Sex and the City: The Movie, which was directed by Michael Patrick King and was released in 2008. The film, while dealing with multiple themes & plots, essentially circled around Mr. Big & Carrie Bradshaw struggling with their relationship just before they hit the altar.
The first film, which was extremely well done warranted a sequel for Bradshaw and the girls, sending them on a trip to Dubai in 2010’s Sex and the City 2. This film, unlike the first, was a major disappointment for all stakeholders, seemingly leaving behind a major character in this franchise, New York City. Oh, well . . . at least we have the new show! Maybe that will help take the whole Mr. Big controversy off our minds.
