Valdez (30-0, 23 KOs), the fighting pride of Nogales, Mexico, is a two-weight world champion entering his 10th world title fight. He authored the 2021 Knockout of the Year with his title-winning effort over longtime champion Miguel Berchelt. Stevenson (17-0, 9 KOs), the rising pound-for-pound star from Newark, New Jersey, is coming off last October’s one-sided knockout over then-champion Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring.

Oscar Valdez vs. Shakur Stevenson Prediction

WBC super featherweight world champion Oscar Valdez will fight WBO super featherweight world Shakur Stevenson in Las Vegas.

Valdez (30-0, 23 KOs) became the WBC super featherweight champion in February 2021 with a 10th-round knockout against the former titleholder, Miguel Berchelt. Valdez made his first title defense against Robson Conceicao in September 2021. Valdez won via unanimous decision but the fight was closer than expected.

That fight happened less than a week after Valdez tested positive for a banned substance in late August. Both test samples came back positive but the fight continued as scheduled. Between the positive drug test and the close fight against Conceicao, the doubters started to speak out against Valdez.

Valdez comes into this fight as the betting underdog. When he beat Berchelt in February 2021, Valdez was a +270 betting underdog in that fight. He hopes to have a similar result with another upset win in a title fight.

Stevenson (17-0, 9 KOs) will make his first title defense in a unification bout. Stevenson has called out Valdez for several years and now he will get a chance to compete in the ring against another 130-pound champion.

Stevenson became the WBO super featherweight champion with a 10th-round TKO win over Jemel Herring in October 2021. He stopped Herring’s fifth title defense dead in its tracks by overpowering him for the duration of the fight.
