Top UK Beaches to Visit in 2021

The weather’s warming up and we’re ready for a staycation in the sun. In fact, over the bank holidays, four destinations in Wales alone were packed with tourists over the late May bank holiday, signalling what’s to come over the coming months.

With uncertainty around foreign travel and the kids about to break up for the summer break, we’re all set to holiday right on our doorstep in 2021. But who needs holidays abroad when there are some of the most stunning beaches here in the UK? Better still, we don’t have to worry about getting to them by plane. Instead, we can hop in the car or take the train and be where we need to be in no time.

If you’re planning a trip here on home turf, here’s a roundup of some of the most captivating beaches to visit this summer.

Porthcurno Beach, Cornwall

If you’re a fan of the BBC’s popular TV series, Poldark, you might recognise this small Cornish beach as the scene of a dream sequence in series two – and it truly is dreamy. Glittering turquoise waters lap the golden sands and basking sharks and dolphins have been spotted nearby.

Whether you’re holidaying as a couple or you’re taking the whole family, this is a sweet little beach that’s sure to keep everyone happy.

Rhossili Bay, Gower, Wales

Over the years, Rhossili Bay has been named the best beach in Europe and was one of the top ten beaches in the world. With its sweeping vistas overlooking three miles of sand and unspoilt natural surroundings, this is a must for nature lovers.

This breathtaking beach is surrounded by the awe-inspiring cliffs of the Gower Peninsula, making it the perfect choice for those who enjoy clifftop rambles followed by relaxing afternoons on the sand.

Hunmanby Gap, North Yorkshire

While the beaches at Filey and Scarborough get all the glory, this beach along the same stretch of coastline, is a must for beach lovers. Powdery yellow sands and cool northern waters are the ideal combination on warm summer days, and Hummanby Gap offers just that. Perfectly framed by towering cliffs, this is a must for those who want to get off the beaten track.

Compton Bay, Isle of Wight

If surfing is your thing, head to this little slice of California right on our doorstep. The waters offer good breaks and decent waves, keeping kite surfers and surfers happy, while the stretch of sand make this the perfect spot for families who want to indulge in an activity-filled holiday.

Mellon Udrigle, Scottish Highlands

Who needs a trip to the Caribbean when we have some of the most captivating beaches right here in Scotland? Mellon Udrigle is among several beaches in the country that could easily be somewhere far-flung. Instead, the white sands and clear, azure waters are in a small hamlet on the north west coast of Ross-shire. If you’re craving a romantic getaway, this remote spot is perfect for a staycation with the one you love.
