Swooning over 'Pride and Prejudice'? Live your Jane Austen fantasy life, if you want, through this upcoming Peacock dating series.

Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ gets a makeover: Peek at this dating show

Sometimes, we all wish we could live life like it was a Jane Austen novel. You know where a touch of the hand could be erotic, empire waist dresses, and a walk around the room is an actual activity to have. Ever since you watch Pride and Prejudice, there’s definitely dreams of Mister Darcy walking out from the water and confessing his love to you in the rain.

This bit of news, however, will definitely send Jane Austen spinning in her grave. Or, well, maybe a bit amused. Who knows how she would have taken reality dating shows, you know? Either way, the Pride and Prejudice author would have some sort of reaction about this. Though given how popular Bridgerton has proven, maybe it’s not that surprising that this is happening.

What is happening? What’s going on? What does it have to do with Pride and Prejudice? Why would this send Jane Austen into a spin? Well, we’re going to share everything we know about this wild bit of news. Be sure to hold onto your bonnets and get ready to go into a swoon. It’s 2021, baby. Bold new world of dating shows, but, at least, this one won’t have a questionable hot tub.

This makes sense (derogatory)

Peacock, the NBCUniversal streaming service, saw the success of Bridgerton and how much people love Pride and Prejudice so they decided to mix it with the dating show genre. We’re getting a Pride and Prejudice inspired dating show! Yes, Peacock is creating a dating series called: Pride & Prejudice: An Experiment in Romance. Welcome to 2021.

Here’s the official synopsis for the dating series, which seems to have one woman being courted by a group of men with input from her squad: “A group of eligible hopeful suitors will have to win the heart of our heroine, and her court. Housed in a castle in the countryside, set on a beautiful backdrop of rolling hills, the heroine and suitors will experience that with which dreams are made of.

From carriage rides and boat rides on the lake to archery and handwritten letters to communicate, they will be immersed in a time-traveling quest for love. In the end, our heroine and her suitors will discover if the ultimate romantic experience will find them true love … With the help of her court, our heroine will determine who most deserves to vie for her heart.”

WHY?!

It’s adorable that you think we can explain the mystery of why Hollywood does what they do. Our best guess, however, has to do with the boom of Regency-era media that’s sure to kick off due to the success of Bridgerton. Hollywood may find period pieces a pain, but, well, the masses have spoken. So, who knows, maybe we’ll see another adaptation of Pride and Prejudice in the future.

Plus, well, Peacock is having an IRL competition series based on Frogger. The world is a vast & mysterious place. Now, if you’re interested in joining in this insanity. Good news! The series is casting. They’re looking for “only noble suitors encouraged to take on this profound and thrilling quest”. Now may be the time to ditch dating apps and take up calligraphy.

As for how dear Jane Austen would handle this madness? Well, no clue. She’d either be amused by it or disturbed. Much like the rest of us when watching dating shows in the 21st century.
