New ‘Detroit’ trailer sees John Boyega interrogated

Annapurna Pictures has debuted a new trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s thriller Detroit, set for theatrical release this August.

Detroit tells the true and “gripping story” of the civil unrest that shook the Michigan city to its core during the hot summer of 1967. The film will delve into the methodology the police and military used to combat the uprising, exploring the systemic racism prevalent throughout the urban area.

Directed by Bigelow, the film reunites the Oscar-winning director with Mark Boal, with whom she previously collaborated on The Hurt Locker (2008) and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). The Hurt Locker later went on to receive nine nominations at the Academy Awards in 2010, winning six of them, including Best Director for Bigelow and Best Original Screenplay for Boal.

The film stars John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Imperial Dreams) in the lead, alongside an ensemble that includes Will Poulter (The Revenant, We’re the Millers), Jacob Latimore (Ride Along, The Maze Runner), Jason Mitchell (Straight Outta Compton, Kong: Skull Island), Algee Smith (The New Edition Story, Earth to Echo), Anthony Mackie (Million Dollar Baby, Captain America: Civil War), John Krasinski (The Office, 13 Hours), Jack Reynor (Free Fire, Macbeth), and Hannah Murray (Game of Thrones, God Help the Girl).

Megan Ellison (True Grit), Matthew Budman (American Hustle), and Colin Wilson (Jurassic Park) serve as producers on the thriller, alongside Boal and Bigelow.

Detroit is scheduled for theatrical release on August 4, 2017 in the United States, ahead of its debut in UK cinemas on August 25, 2017. See the trailer here.
