How did Daniel Craig say goodbye to James Bond?

A video recently put online shows actor Daniel Craig giving thanks and saying goodbye to the crew of No Time to Die. He got emotional while saying goodbye to the character and the people he’s worked with on the James Bond movies for the last fifteen years or so. No Time to Die will supposedly be his fifth & last appearance as James Bond. Daniel Craig has played James Bond longer than any other actor. 

No Time to Die is the final movie in the Daniel Craig James Bond movies and is meant to wrap up any loose ends left by the previous films. In his speech, Craig gave a special shoutout to those he’d worked with on all five Bond flicks. With the release of the most recent movie, the Daniel Craig James Bond movies consist of Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre, and now No Time to Die. 

The video shows Daniel Craig dressed in character and on the set of No Time to Die. The movie is set to hit theaters on October 8th, after having its release postponed multiple times due to the pandemic. 

The video also notably shows Daniel Craig alluding to the rumors that he doesn’t like the James Bond movies, which he brushed off as “whatever” when addressing the crew. He assures the crew that he’s loved every minute of working with them, and because of that, he loves the final products. The video was supposedly taken back when filming wrapped in 2019. 

Casino Royale (2006)

Daniel Craig wasn’t interested in playing James Bond until he read the script for Casino Royale. Of course, as with any recasting of an iconic character, Craig’s casting was met with controversy. Some people even went so far as to dedicate their online presence to spreading negativity about the casting choice, and some said they wouldn’t be watching the films if Craig was in them. 

Casino Royale works as a sort of origin story for Daniel Craig’s version of James Bond. It starts with him getting his 00 status after killing a man on assignment. Casino Royale notably features what might be the best villain in the Craig Bond series, Mads Mikkelson as Le Chiffre. Why is he the best? First of all, his weapon of choice is a rope for hitting Bond in the, um… well, you can watch it yourself. Second? Mads Mikkelson!

Casino Royale was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews. It reinvigorated the series with more depth than the admittedly campy series had in past iterations. Furthermore, Daniels Craig’s performance and the new version of the character was a high point of praise. 

Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), and Spectre (2015)

Quantum of Solace picks up right where Casino Royale left off. It serves to wrap up the Vesper plot so Bond can put that behind him. It wasn’t viewed as favorably as it’s predecessor, but the action was praised. 

The next Bond movie, Skyfall, was released in 2012. It starts with Bond going missing after being injured on an assignment. Of course, retirement never sticks with Bond for long, and soon he’s back in the game. Skyfall takes Bond back to his childhood home for a stunning finale. The movie got great reviews, second only to Casino Royale. 

The fourth Bond movie starring Daniel Craig is Spectre, which many felt tried to do too much. In fact, it’s more of a return to the Bond movie formulas of the past, which was a hit with some viewers and a miss with others. It set up the big bad and Bond’s love interest for the final Craig-led Bond movie, No Time to Die. 

No Time to Die (2021)

After lots of postponing due to COVID-19 related concerns, No Time to Die is set to release on October 8th. It’s directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, and co-written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Not much is known about the plot, other than that the movie is super long and is supposed to wrap up this Bond’s arc.
