Watch Now: Doctor Strange 2 (2022) Online

So you’re ready to watch Marvel’s latest colossal superhero flick? Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange, hits cinemas on Friday.

But what about at-home streaming options? You might be expecting the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring movie to hit Disney Plus shortly after release, based on previous Marvel movies. That’s very possible. Let’s dive into the details below.

We have been consuming so much Marvel content throughout the last couple of years. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is next in line to hit theaters. The big question of the week is, will it be available on the small screen, big screen, or both? Here’s what you need to know about the Doctor Strange 2 movie.

After watching Spider-Man: No Way Home and all the people that popped in and out of that film, the intrigue for who will appear in Doctor Strange 2 is at an all-time high. Could we see Venom make his first appearance? What about Morbius? or even Moon Knight? The possibilities are endless.

We do know that the film’s synopsis is incredibly secretive like most of the Marvel stuff. We do know that Dr. Strange opened the door to the multiverse when trying to help Spider-Man in No Way Home. Because of that, we see several variations of Dr. Strange himself that he is going to have to try and overcome.

I wasn’t a massive fan of the first Doctor Strange. I understand it was an introduction to this character with some world-building, but it wasn’t my cup of tea. However, with Sam Raimi in the director’s chair, my excitement for this one is at an all-time high. We are on the verge of seeing the first horror-like Marvel movie and it has a chance to be great.

Doctor Strange 2: Release date

Theatrical release date: 6 May 2022

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently scheduled to premiere in the US and the UK on 6 May 2022.

The sequel was originally due to release on 7 May 2021, but it was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was first delayed to 5 November 2021, then 25 March 2022, and finally 6 May 2022.

Is Doctor Strange 2 on Disney+ or Hulu?

Yes, eventually—but you’ll have to wait. Last year, Disney made a deal with Sony to bring Spider-Man and other Sony titles to Disney Plus after the movies are released on Netflix, beginning with Sony’s 2022 release slate. The deal will bring Sony’s titles, such as Uncharted, to Disney platforms for their Pay 2 windows, which should be a little over 18 months after the movie opens in theaters. Therefore, you may see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on the Disney streaming platforms around September or October 2023.

Where to stream Doctor Strange 2 online

The answer for this one is easy. You won’t be able to stream the movie from home, at least not when it first premieres. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’s budget is over $200 million. The film will possibly recoup that amount in its first weekend alone. Because of that, Disney will only be releasing this movie in theaters.

The movie will probably have long legs at the box office so that means we won’t see Doctor Strange 2 on streaming or VOD for at least 4 to 6 months. When the film does hit streaming, it’ll be on Disney+. If anything changes, we will update you.

When will Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness be on Disney+?

We don’t know the official Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness streaming release date, but at Disney’s recent earnings call, CEO Bob Chapek revealed that it’ll launch on the streamer sometime this summer. But is that early June? Late August? Though this is by no means a pattern, some previous Disney releases have headed to the service after 45 days; while other Marvel movies like Eternals took 68 days. So somewhere between June 20 and July 13 seems like a reasonable guess, though is by no means confirmation.

Is Doctor Strange 2 on HBO MAX?

No. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a Sony movie, not a Warner Bros. movie. Also, HBO Max will no longer be streaming theatrical movies in 2022. (Last year, Warner Bros. opted to simultaneously release its theatrical slate on streaming, meaning HBO Max subscribers could watch movies like Matrix Resurrections at home. This year, however, Warner Bros. theatrical movies will have a 45-day theaters-only run before moving to HBO Max.)

Is Doctor Strange 2 on NETFLIX?

Not right now—but it will be someday. While you certainly won’t see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on Netflix before it releases on video-on-demand, last year Sony signed a deal to bring the studio’s 2022 film slate to Netflix during the “Pay 1 window,” which used to be 18-months after the film’s theatrical release, but could be even sooner, given that most theatrical windows have been reduced from 90 days to 45 days during the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, it’s likely you will see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on Netflix in 2023.

In other words, it may be a while before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available to stream at home. If you’re dying to see Jared Leto as a vampire ASAP, well, you could probably just look at a picture of Jared Leto on the internet. But you also might want to see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters.
