‘Bridgerton’ spinoff: What can we expect from Queen Charlotte’s series?

We burn for Bridgerton. This Netflix & Shondaland collab has proven to be timeless, and we can’t help but love the series. It’s no surprise Netflix has renewed the series following the huge success of season 1. We got to see the blossoming and ever-so-steamy romance between the Duke of Hastings & Daphne Bridgerton throughout the first season. Unfortunately, the Duke is MIA for season 2.

Lady Whistledown has shared some breaking news straight from the ton: we’re getting a spinoff! Who will star in this Bridgerton spinoff? Let’s uncover the mysterious spinoff series and its secrets.

The Queen has arrived

That’s right, the Bridgerton spinoff will be focused on the regal and lover of gossip – Queen Charlotte. The untitled series will focus on Queen Charlotte’s origin story. It will be a limited series written by Shonda Rhimes as she unveils what really makes the royal tick.

Netflix’s Bela Bajaria recently shared her thoughts about Queen Charlotte and sharing more of Bridgerton’s story: “Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I’m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton

“Shonda and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love. And by planning and prepping all the upcoming seasons now, we also hope to keep up a pace that will keep even the most insatiable viewers totally fulfilled.”

Rewinding time (even further) will also give us a glimpse at a young Violet Bridgerton and her courtship with the late Mr. Bridgerton. We’ll also get the opportunity to explore Lady Danbury and how she was in her younger years.

The Bridgerton universe

Luckily for us, Netflix announced they were renewing Bridgerton for season 2 (focused on the gorgeous Anthony Bridgerton). But wait – there’s more! We’ll also get to see seasons 4 & 5 and expand the universe that much more. After it was revealed 82 million households watched season 1, it’s no surprise Netflix wanted seconds.

Showrunner Chris Van Dussen will be the showrunner for season 2 (which is currently in production). “With Bridgerton, I set out to make the period show I always wanted to see. I never could’ve anticipated how much the rest of the world also wanted to see it. I’m deeply proud of this remarkable cast and incredible crew, and I’m so grateful for the enduring support of Shonda, who I’ve worked alongside for 17 years.”

We’re not the only ones who love period dramas, clearly. With the second season focused on Julia Quinn’s novel The Viscount Who Loved Me, we can only assume the following seasons will follow the series too.

Duke of Hasting’s goodbye

Unfortunately, it looks like Regé-Jean Page won’t be returning for his role as the handsome Duke despite fan complaints swarming social media.

Shonda Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter, “I was just excited about the idea of being able to tell a complete romantic tale that has an end, where you’re not finding 14 other reasons why the couple can’t be together or frankly having Regé stand in the background of somebody else’s romance, that doesn’t make sense.”

According to Rhimes, she was shocked by the uproar caused by fans following Page’s exit. “I was really shocked because usually, that happens when I’ve killed off somebody that’s been around for a while. Like, we didn’t kill him, he’s still alive.”
