Bert Kreischer’s ‘The Machine’ movie: Watch his Twitter announcement

Bert Kreischer is definitely a name that stand-up comedy fans are, at least, aware of. He’s active on Twitter. He has his three podcasts: Bertcast; Two Bears, One Cave (with Tom Segura); and Bill and Burt (with Bill Burr). He’s been working as a stand-up comedian since 1997. In addition to his podcasting & comedy, he’s also a reality television show host.

Bert Kreischer has hosted the FX series Hurt Bert, which was based on a series of segments for The X Show of him doing stunts. What you would really know him for is his work with the Travel Channel where Bert Kreischer had two shows: Bert the Conqueror and Trip Flip. Now, however, Kreischer has taken to Twitter to announce that he’s making the move to features, baby.

The Machine on the big screen

Based on Bert Kreischer’s most popular stand-up routine “The Machine”, this feature film from Legendary has nabbed Mark Hamill (Star Wars) to play Bert’s dad. According to Deadline, the project is described as “The Hangover meets Midnight Run, The Machine is a genre-bending comedy inspired by Bert’s real-life adventures and subsequent breakout stand-up routine “The Machine”.”

The film, apparently, serves as a sort of sequel to “The Machine” routine. According to Deadline, the plot of the film is “Bert’s drunken past catches up with him 20 years down the road when he and his father are kidnapped by those Bert wronged 20 years ago while drunk on a college semester abroad in Russia.” Apparently, “The Machine” is about when Kreischer accidentally got involved with the Russian mob in college.

Sounds about right for being drunk during your semester abroad, my guy. You can watch the original stand-up bit above.

What else do we know about The Machine?

In Bert Kreischer’s Twitter announcement for The Machine, which you can see above, he’s headed to Serbia in order to film the movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peter Atencio, who directed episodes of Key & Peele along with the movie Keanu, is set to direct this feature. Excellent choice for a director, tbh. Key & Peele is awesome and Keanu is vastly underrated as a buddy comedy movie.

Kreischer is producing The Machine with Judi Marmel. Mark Hamill announced his involvement in the film on Instagram. He also posted the video on Twitter, which you can see below. Apparently, he wasn’t expecting Kreischer’s form of comedy which largely involves him being shirtless and drinking. As he says, “Well, I’m still marginally excited about this project.” Also there’s a puppy!!!!

Hamill, of course, is joking. Still it’s hilarious to watch. He even retweeted Bert Kreischer’s Twitter announcement saying, “Some would consider making a movie based on your bizarre life story a form of rehab.” To which we say, yes sir, we definitely agree with that statement. Mark Hamill probably has some very, very, very weird ones to share.

Anything else?

At this time, Mark Hamill & Bert Kreischer’s casting along with the director is all we know about The Machine. Presumably, Legendary will release a cast list at some point, but who knows when that will happen. At this time, we don’t have a release date for The Machine. But we’re guessing Kreischer will reveal that bit of news on Twitter as well.

What do you think about “The Machine” getting a movie? Are you excited to see what’s going to happen in the film? Who else do you think will be in the cast for The Machine? Sound off in the comments below and share your thoughts about it.
