Here’s a brief rundown of what went down in season one (Part One and Part Two) of 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' before CAOS returns!

‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ is back soon: Our S1 recap

We’re all going to go to Hell when Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina returns on Friday, Jan. 24. The eight-episode Part Three will see Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka), her family, and the Fright Club prepare to go to Hell and save her boyfriend Nick Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood).

But seeing as how it’s been since April 2019 since Part Two dropped, we can forgive you if you’ve gotten fuzzy on a couple of details in the interim. So here’s a brief rundown of what went down in season one (Part One and Part Two) of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Sabrina Spellman: The Antichrist

Okay, so, no one has specifically called Sabrina the Antichrist to our knowledge. She’s been referred to as the “Dark Lord’s Sword”, the “Herald of Hell”, and other such titles. Basically, Part One was all about Lilith’s (Michelle Gomez) machinations to get Sabrina to sign her name in the Book of the Beast in order to pledge herself to Lucifer. It worked, Sabrina did sign her name.

But there is also something strange about Sabrina’s powers. She is the fourth witch in history (and possibly the youngest) to summon hellfire. Her powers only continue to grow, which leads to Sabrina’s death and resurrection in “Chapter Seventeen: The Missionaries”. Subsequently, Sabrina performs perversions of Jesus’ miracles in “Chapter Eighteen: The Miracles of Sabrina Spellman”, which kickstarts the beginning of the end.

It’s revealed in “Chapter Twenty: The Mephisto Waltz” that Lucifer (Luke Cook) possessed Edward Spellman (George Daburas) in order to impregnate Diana (Annette Reilly). So Sabrina is really a hybrid of a fallen angel/demon and a witch and a mortal. The plan was that Sabrina would Herald the Apocalypse and rule by Lucifer’s side as his Queen.

Stopping the Apocalypse

During “The Mephisto Waltz”, the Spellman family, Lilith, and Sabrina friends agreed that they had to stop Lucifer from imposing his will. So they came up with a plan to try to imprison the Devil in the Acheron Configuration, a device created by Sabrina’s late father to imprison a demon Batibat.

Lucifer, however, destroyed the Acheron Configuration. This led Sabrina’s boyfriend, Nick Scratch, to bind Lucifer to himself, using his body and soul to contain the Dark Lord within. The sacrifice stopped the Apocalypse and locked Lucifer away.

Love in Greendale

Right, so, there’s a lot of relationships going down in CAOS. So, we’re going to sum up who is currently with who and who isn’t. Sound good?

Sabrina Spellman is currently in a relationship with Nick Scratch. Sabrina dated Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch) at the beginning of the series, but the revelation of her powers and the death of his brother, Tommy (Justin Dobies), led to Harvey breaking up with Sabrina.

Harvey is currently dating Rosalind “Roz” Walker (Jaz Sinclair), who is Sabrina’s mortal best friend. Roz is also having a hard time handling the whole her best friend is a witch thing.

Hilda Spellman (Lucy Davis) is dating Dr. Cerberus (Alessandro Juliani), who runs Cerberus Books and is a former horror host. Dr. Cerberus is possessed by an incubus, which is a type of sexual demon that emerges when he is aroused.

Zelda Spellman (Miranda Otto) married Faustus Blackwood (Richard Coyle) in Part 2. They have broken-up because Blackwood is a hypocritical ass.

Ambrose Spellman (Chance Perdomo) seems to have a relationship with Prudence Blackwood (Tati Gabrielle) at the present. The two are currently hunting Faustus Blackwood. Before that, Ambrose dated Luke Chalfant (Darren Mann).

The formation of the Fright Club

Sabrina’s mortal friends, mainly Harvey and Roz, have been struggling with the revelation that Sabrina is a witch throughout Part Two. The only one who didn’t have an issue with Sabrina’s other mortal friend Theo Putnam (Lachlan Watson). In fact, Theo calls Harvey and Roz out for believing the Sabrina made Roz go blind with her magic in “The Missionaries”. Theo, who is called “Susie” in Part One, comes out as trans in Part Two of CAOS’ first season.

Sabrina, as part of her “miracles”, heals Roz’s blindness. Though despite healing her blindness, Roz keeps her Cunning abilities, which is a side-effect of the curse that affected the women in her family. Their eyesight was robbed, but she can see visions of the future and the dead.

Harvey, Roz, and Theo helped Sabrina and the others stop the Apocalypse from getting started. Following Lilith taking Nick into Hell, they agree to help Sabrina get her boyfriend out of Hell, which forms The Fright Club.

The rise and fall of Faustus Blackwood

A recurring antagonist throughout Parts One and Two for Sabrina and company is the misogynistic Headmaster of the Academy of the Unseen Arts and High Priest of the Church of the Night, Faustus Blackwood. Blackwood, a more conservative leader than the progressive Edward Spellman, sought to roll back changes that Edward had made.

He reinstated the cannibalistic Feast of Feasts, tried to roll back the rights of witches within the Church of the Night. Blackwood then framed Ambrose for the assassination of the Anti-Pope (Ray Wise). He mind-controlled Zelda into being the perfect 50s housewife and briefly became the Anti-Pope. Thanks to Sabrina, however, both plans were foiled.

When he learned of his baby daughter by his wife Constance, he took the babe and engaged her to her twin brother in order to “keep the bloodline pure”. When he learned about Lucifer’s plans for the Apocalypse and Sabrina, Blackwood poisoned his coven, took the babies, and ran.

Prudence and Ambrose, both really wanting some of that good vengeance, are hunting Blackwood down.

The state of Hell

With Lucifer currently sealed inside of the body of a warlock, Hell needs a new ruler. After working as Lucifer’s agents (along with playing her own game), Sabrina crowned Lilith the Queen of Hell. In turn, Lilith restored Sabrina’s powers without any caveat giving her both power and freedom. She also brought Mary Wardwell, whose body she wore on Earth back to life.

Which is all well and good for Ms. Wardwell, but there’s going to be a lot of awkwardness. As her fiance (Alexis Denisof) was killed by Lucifer, who then tricked Lilith into consuming his flesh after she fell in love with him. Plus Wardwell is now missing a whole year. So…things aren’t going to be great for that poor woman.

With Lucifer imprisoned, Blackwood on the run, and Lilith Hell’s new Queen, Zelda has decided to reform the Church of Night coven into the Church of Lilith as its first High Priestess. Ladies getting all the jobs done in CAOS.
