Top ten sizzling summer blockbusters worth visiting the theater for

This year has been an absolute belter so far for blockbuster jams. However, we can’t help but notice 2018 has been overrun by a deluge of superhero beats, with a majority of the ticket sales going to the likes of Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Deadpool 2. Not that we’re complaining – we love a bit of cape-wearing action. That said, this summer is shaping up to be a solid season of diverse stories – from sci-fi sizzlers to heart-stopping horrors, here are ten of the hottest blockbusters hitting the big screen this summer.

Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) is back in yet another sci-fi, this time as a scientist who becomes obsessed with bringing back his family members who died in a traffic accident. Immortality does seem to be one of Reeve’s best points, so it makes a lot of sense.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Release date: July 6

Yes, it’s another superhero jam, and yes, it’s not exactly everyone’s favorite Marvel character. But for those who are members of the fandom, Peyton Reed’s action-adventure sounds like a helluva lotta fun. Plus it’s got Paul Rudd (The 40-Year-Old Virgin), who will always be a winner in our eyes.

Crazy Rich Asians

What else can we say aside from we finally get to see the gender-swapped remake and we get to see the real-time scene of the “Anne Hathaway holding a knife and laughing” meme. Take it away, ladies!

Sorry to Bother You

Release date: July 6

Sorry to bother you but we think you should get your fine ass in a cinema seat when director Boots Riley’s satirical comedy launches this July. Described as the “punk film 2018 deserves”, the Sundance hit stars Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta) as a telemarketer living in a dystopian not-too-distant future where he discovers a “magical key” to professional success and is propelled into a macabre universe.

The bald-headed badass is back in director Jon Turteltaub’s action horror, about a slippery dude who is tasked with saving the crew of a sunken submersible after escaping an attack by a 70-foot shark. Well worth the ticket price for those who are willing to pay good money to see Jason Statham (Crank) battle a shark called the megalodon (honestly, who isn’t?). And yes, we’re unashamed to give The Meg the #1 spot – fight us!
