5 Tanzania Safari Tips for First Timers

If you take great interest in watching wildlife documentaries, this is the right time to go watch them and have a safe encounter. Tanzania is a country believed to be safe for safari. Thousands of people go there to have a lasting experience.

South Africa is more famous for safari. However, Tanzania is way better than South Africa. It has noticeably more elephants, cheetahs, lions, and wild dogs than South Africa. Moreover, Tanzania tour companies have knowledgeable drivers and guides that make every penny you spend worth it.

Going with the tour company is usually safe as they have guides. However, going on the safari unprepared is still not recommended or at least not on the Tanzania safari; where there will be more wildlife encounters. If this is your first time, here are the five tips for a safe and fun trip;

  • Take all the necessities
  • Tanzania has a different climate, be prepared
  • Be ready to sleep early and wake up early
  • Keep your camera ready
  • Avoid wearing camouflage dress

Take all the necessities

The safari trips are usually 5 to 7 days long. So, the first thing you need to do is take all the necessities with you. Make sure you have enough clothes to wear for 5 to 7 days. Besides clothes, your suitcase should have a first-aid kit, sunscreen, a camera with battery and memory card, binoculars, backpack, water bottle, swimming suit, and one or two pairs of shoes.

Tanzania has a different climate, be prepared

Keep that in mind Tanzania has a hot and humid climate and it stays so all year round. The period between May to August is a bit favourable for the safari as these months are the coolest. Whereas, March, April, and May mark the rainy season and November and December are the hottest time of the year. So, prepare yourself according to the Tanzania climate.

Be ready to sleep early and wake up early

If you are a night owl, you might struggle a bit with sleeping and waking up early. Since Tanzania is the country with the hottest climate, you would be woken up for a safari tour at around 5 or 6 am. Fix your sleep schedule before going on the tour and be ready to sleep and wake up early.

Keep your camera ready

Another important thing that no one might tell you is that you have to keep your camera ready the entire time. It is because sometimes these animals do not give us enough time to take the camera out and capture a perfect picture. You have to keep it ready just so you can capture a picture immediately.

Avoid wearing camouflage dress

Remember! You can not wear a camouflage dress where you are planning to spend your next 5 to 7 days. It is only worn by the military in African countries; a common man is prohibited from wearing a camouflage-patterned dress. So, you should avoid it as well. Try wearing neutral colours that do not provoke wild animals.
