Gothtober: ‘Coraline’ and all the best spooky movies for the whole family

Halloween is the perfect time of year to enjoy spooky movies. Ghouls & gals of all ages can get into their creepy costumes and enjoy this year’s festivities. Being unable to trick or treat shouldn’t stop you from enjoying Gothtober.

With fall getting us in the Halloween spirit, let’s enjoy some more spirits in our favorite family spooky movies.

Coraline (2009)

This animated movie is an instant classic and can be enjoyed by the whole family. Beware of those dreaded button eyes and feast your own eyes on Coraline. An adventurous 11-year-old girl finds another world that is a strangely idealized version of her frustrating home, but it has sinister secrets.

Even for an animation, Coraline is a spooky movie so make sure you’re prepared! 👻

Corpse Bride (2005)

Ah, Tim Burton. The iconic director gave us an equally iconic movie that’s perfect for Halloween. 🎃 When a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her.

Pardon our enthusiasm, but the animated movie Corpse Bride is perfect for your little monsters.

Goosebumps (2015)

Get ready to get goosebumps of your own after watching this book adaptation. 👹 A teenager teams up with the daughter of young adult horror author R.L. Stine after the writer’s imaginary demons are set free in the town of Madison, Delaware.

Casper (1995)

Monsters & aliens are the perfect combination for our ghouls & gals to enjoy during Halloween. 👽️ A woman transforms into a giant after she’s struck by a meteorite on her wedding day. She then becomes part of a team of monsters sent by the U.S. government to defeat an alien mastermind trying to take over Earth.

Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogan, and Hugh Laurie bring the mayhem in Monsters vs. Aliens. This movie is guaranteed to make you howl with laughter.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

Want to phone home? This Steven Spielberg classic brings tears and heart-warming moments for the whole family to enjoy. A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home world. 🌏️

E.T. is a classic and if you’ve not seen it yet, then use the spooky season as your excuse to enjoy this movie.

Monsters, Inc. (2001)

We’re always looking for a reason to watch Disney Pixar. In order to power their city, monsters scare children to use the energy from their screams. However, the children are toxic to the monsters, and after a child gets loose in their world, two monsters realize things may not be what they think. 🚪

Get a lock for your closets and settle in for a night of laughter when you watch Monsters, Inc. 

Harry Potter franchise
