Who’s the next ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ DLC fighter? All our guesses

Nintendo announced a new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character for the Switch game. “DLC” means “downloadable content,” and the new downloadable character will be revealed during The Game Awards 2020. The awards will be livestreamed beginning at 4 pm Pacific time later today, Dec. 10.

Only two out of six Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighters have been revealed for Fighters Pass Vol. 2. These were Steve from Minecraft & Min Min from ARMS. The character today will be the third one announced in this series and the eighth Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter overall.

The characters from the first Fighters Pass were Joker from Persona 5, the Hero from Dragon Quest, Banjo & Kazooie, Terry Bogard from Final Fury, and Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Nintendo didn’t provide any hints

So far, Nintendo hasn’t provided any hints about who the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter could be. That hasn’t stopped gamers from guessing, though. Fans voiced their opinions on Twitter and talked about who they hope gets revealed today during the awards show. Here are some of the most popular predictions:

Bandana Waddle Dee

Bandana Waddle Dee is a character in the Kirby series who made his debut in Kirby Super Star. He’s a Waddle Dee who wears a blue bandana. In September, Nintendo released the game Kirby Fighters 2. Bandana Waddle Dee is a character in that game, so it would be interesting to see him become one of the DLC fighters.

Paper Mario

People have been wanting Paper Mario to get a DLC character for quite a while now. This year Nintendo also celebrated the thirty-fifth anniversary of Super Mario Bros., which makes Paper Mario a likely contender.

“It better be Paper Mario! I’ve been wanting him in Smash for ever,” said a fan on Twitter.

Breath of the Wild Zelda

Zelda is already a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. She’s from the series The Legend of Zelda. There’s a new game in the series predicted to come out soon called Breath of the Wild 2

Some fans think a trailer for the game might be shown at The Game Awards tonight, and that a unique Zelda could become the new DLC character.

I cannot shrug the feeling that tonight we will see a breath of the wild 2 trailer into immediate zelda character in smash reveal,” a Twitter user wrote.

Sora

Sora is from the videogame series Kingdom Hearts. People speculated about Sora being a character before Super Smash Bros. Ultimate even came out in 2018. Kingdom Hearts III was also being hyped up at around the same time.

“If sora gets announced for smash today, i will be a professional smash player by the weekend,” someone wrote on Twitter.

Ryu Hayabasa

Ryu Hayabasa is from the video game series Ninja Gaiden. Quite a number of fans hope Ryu gets chosen to be the third Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter.

“Ryu Hayabusa is a shoe in for smash,” said one Twitter user.

Crash Bandicoot

By far one of the most popular picks on Twitter is Crash Bandicoot, a bandicoot animal character with a video game series by the same name.

TODAY IS HIS DAY TO BE IN SMASH LETS GET THIS TRENDING,” someone wrote about Crash in a tweet.

Geno

A lot of the DLC hype is surrounding Geno, a character from the Super Mario Bros. franchise. Geno is a warrior from the Star Road from the game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

There are a lot of mixed feelings about Geno on Twitter, but many fans think Geno could be a star tonight at The Game Awards.

Other people think today’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter reveal could be Spyro, Jonesy from Fortnite, Shadow the Hedgehog, Waluigi, or even a Pokemon.
