'Sex/Life' season 2 is coming. But what’s all this we’re hearing about a viral scene saving the Netflix show? Join us as we keep up-to-date on the matter!

Did this viral scene save Netflix’s ‘Sex/Life’?

We just got wind that Netflix has renewed Sex/Life for a second season. The streaming giant revealed that the first season of the steamy drama was viewed in 67 million households in the first four weeks since the May 25 release. Netflix’s metric counts the households that have watched two or more minutes of a program.

The 67 million mark is the third greatest audience for an original Netflix series. It’s only behind the first seasons of Bridgerton and The Witcher. And still, the streamer’s subscriber base is far from shrinking which of course, boosts their viewership figures for newer shows.

Sex/Life is scheduled to return for season 2. Fans can expect to see series regulars, Sarah Shahi, Mike Vogel, Adam Demos and Margaret Odette. Once again, production will take place in Toronto. Inspired by the novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men penned by BB Easton, Sex/Life was brought to us by Stacy Rukeyser who worked as a showrunner.

But what’s all this we’re hearing about a viral scene saving the Netflix show?

Sex/Life

Sex/Life tells us the story of a love triangle between a woman, her husband, and her past. It takes a provocative, deep, even unique glimpse at female identity and desire. Billie Connelly (Sarah Shahi) wasn’t always a stay-at-home wife and mother residing in the suburbs. But then, she met and married the loving and reliable Cooper (Mike Vogel).

Upon moving to Connecticut, Billie was free-spirited and pregnant in New York City with her best friend Sasha (Margaret Odette) as they worked hard and played even harder. But she was a mom, so we know she was exhausted, taking care of her two young children. Because she was human, she grew nostalgic for her past.

Billie began dreaming and journaling about her passionate exploits with greatly attractive ex-boyfriend Brad (Adam Demos) 一 he was the big heartbreak she never got over. The more Billie reminisced, the more she pondered how she got there. And then her husband found her journal!

Two questions came to mind: will the truth about Billie’s past begin a “sexual revolution” in her marriage? Or will it pave the way for a path back to the life she thought she left behind with the man who broke her heart? “Sex/Life is a dream come true,” said Rukeyser.

“To create a show about empowered female sexuality that has entranced so many millions of viewers is not only immensely fun but also incredibly gratifying . . . I’m thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to continue telling this story for Billie, and for all of us.”

Viral scene

Netflix divulged that 20 million viewers replayed a viral NSFW scene. The scene in discussion gathered traction after it became one of the infamous TikTok challenges. Users of the social media network encouraged one another to watch the scene free of context, which happened in episode three upon the twenty minute mark.

In the midst of the following minutes, Billie’s husband Cooper was showering next to an unknowing Brad. While Brad was moving around in the shower, the camera monetarily focused on his penis. It’s a moment that birthed so many conversations on social media. There’s even been talk about speculation of a prosthetic. (That speculation has neither been confirmed or denied, by the way).

Season two’s release date hasn’t been confirmed yet. But many of us can’t help but think if Sex/Life’s viral scene had anything to do with the show’s Netflix continuation.
