We chatted with 'Whiskey Cavalier' fans about what this ABC show means to them and how they plan to fight back against its cancellation.

#SaveWhiskeyCavalier: The Friskeyheads on why they love ‘Whiskey Cavalier’

Not too long ago we spoke with the Friskeyheads about why they love Whiskey Cavalier and how they’re fighting back against its untimely cancellation. The fans have been loud in protest, as they’ve been sending fortune cookies and whiskey glasses to ABC executives, as well as executives at Amazon Prime and Netflix encouraging them to pick up the show.

The fandom even picked together money to fly a plane over San Diego Comic-Con reminding everyone to #SaveWhiskeyCavalier. That alone shows their dedication as those banner planes aren’t cheap. This is a fanbase that is putting their foot down and refusing to let their show die off into oblivion.

Whiskey Cavalier is a breath of fresh air in a world bombarded by so many different cop/crime shows on network tv. The show focuses around FBI agent Will Chase (aka Whiskey Cavalier) and his CIA counterpart Frankie Trowbridge (aka Fiery Tribute) as they recruit a team of CIA, FBI, and NSA agents to fight against the bad in the world.

We only a few of the amazing fans who spoke to us about what this show means to them, but there’s still plenty more voicing their support. Here’s more of the Friskeyheads discussing what the show means to them and how they’re fighting to #SaveWhiskeyCavalier.

Shannon

When did you start watching Whiskey Cavalier?

The first of March.

What drew you to the show?

I have been a fan of Lauren Cohan since Supernatural and a fan of The Walking Dead. She is the reason why I decided to watch Whiskey Cavalier.

What about the show makes it so special?

Whiskey Cavalier has everything you want in a show. It has action, comedy, drama and romance. Whiskey Cavalier was well written and the chemistry between the cast was great. It was refreshing to watch a show that was entertaining without cussing or sexual content. It was a good wholesome show that could be watched by the whole family.

The locations where Whiskey Cavalier was filmed was beautiful. The music was great and I love how the music correlated with the location of the show. I have never been this invested in a show before. I loved the storylines and how the characters relationships grew.

Usually I am able to pick a favorite character from a show but in this case I could not. I loved each and every one of them equally.

What was the most frustrating thing about the way Whiskey Cavalier was cancelled?

I believe ABC did not give Whiskey Cavalier a chance. Why was it given a 10pm time slot? Most working adults are in bed by that time or getting ready for bed. I feel that it would have attracted a larger audience if given a slot between 6:00-9:00 pm.

ABC said they may reverse the shows cancellation, but then canceled it again. ABC said it was a tough decision. If it was such a tough decision, why couldn’t you give it one more season? This day and age people live very busy lives.

ABC did not give enough time for Whiskey Cavalier to blossom and build a fanbase. I personally will not watch another show on ABC.

Have you made friends in the fandom?

Yes

How did you make friends?

I have made friends through Facebook and Twitter.

How did the show get you through dark times?

I enjoyed watching the show during my workout on Hulu. It definitely made the work out more enjoyable and time went by fast.

I did watch episodes again at home. It is perfect a perfect show to watch and unwind from a long day. It’s my escape to another world for 45 minutes. It had action and romance but the comedy really made the show. Whiskey Cavalier is a feel good show and it keeps you wanting more.

How did the fandom support you in times of need?

I was able to post on FB or Twitter my sadness and frustration over the cancellation. We empathize with each other and it was good to know I wasn’t going through it alone. We worked as a team coming up with ideas such as sending shot glasses to Netflix, writing letters or tweeting to express our feelings about it being cancelled and wanted it saved.

I have had a Twitter account for 10yrs and never used it. It wasn’t until I joined the Whiskey Cavalier fandom on Facebook that it was even possible to fight for a show. I had no idea how to use twitter but the fandoms help me learned.

The admins worked hard giving the group email addresses, where to mail letters, or examples of tweets. We also voted on want to do and the group was very open to suggestions. I feel our group is a family that understands each others’ feelings.

What lengths have you gone to to save Whiskey Cavalier?

I have sent letters, tweeted, called, sent 600 shot glasses to Netflix, donated for a banner to be flown at Comic-Con, voted on polls, donated to send gift baskets to executives at Warner Bros. or Netflix and purchased a Team Whiskey shirt.

What lengths will you go to save the show?

Even though they have permanently cancelled the show, I still have hope it can be revived at a later date. I will continue to tweet, send letters, call, basically do whatever I can do to make sure our voice is heard. That we have not given up.

Is there a charity that your fandom is supporting? Which one?

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation/Women’s Cancer Research Fund

How has your fandom helped support that charity?

Our group has made donations to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation/WCR Fund.

Do you have anything else to add?

I will continue to fight to get a season 2. I feel very strongly that Whiskey Cavalier had the potential to be the next Castle or Bones

Hope dies last. #WhiskeyCavalierForever

Eindi

When did you start watching Whiskey Cavalier?

I’ve watched since the pilot aired in February 2019.

What drew you to the show?

I saw the preview during the Academy Awards. It grabbed me right away. It was a fast paced action sequence with some very smart and funny dialogues.

I’ve watched Scott Foley since Felicity. The chemistry between Scott Foley and Lauren Cohen was an instant fire. I was hooked.

What about the show makes it so special?

The show is so different from what’s on TV right now. I grew up watching Hart to Hart, Moonlighting, etc. I was also a huge fan of Castle. Whiskey Cavalier reminds me of those shows.

Every week, I can escape to beautiful scenery of different countries, some crazy beautifully choreographed fight scenes, funny and witty banters between Will and Frankie. I fell in love with the whole team though, Will, Frankie, Susan, Jai, Standish, even Ray.

What was the most frustrating thing about the way Whiskey Cavalier was cancelled?

Oh boy! Where do I even begin!!! First of all, the show just started at mid season. The first time I found out about it was during the Academy Awards. I stayed up late to catch the preview after but it was already very late even for the west coasters.

Both my friend and I made a point to stay up till 10 PM on Wednesday night to watch the pilot. I work full time. My commute is 1 hour each way. So I usually get up by 5 am to be at work by 7 am. And for the love of Whiskey Cavalier, I did watch live on ABC every single week.

But other people do not because that’s the whole point of DVR and streaming services, right? I also watch again on Hulu the following day. Even though ratings of live viewing reportedly dropped, the DVR and delayed ratings were soaring. Fandom grew every single day on social media.

When we realized Whiskey Cavalier was on the cancellation bubble, we tweeted non-stop. Then ABC announced the show was cancelled on Mother’s day when they had two episodes left to air. We were completely devastated.

And then we got some news that ABC was reconsidering the cancellation. The whole fandom got loud, excited and tweeted day and night. The day after the finale aired on May 23rd, we got official words from series creator that the 2nd cancellation (or original decision) stands. We were absolutely stunned. We were determined more than ever to continue fighting to #SaveWhiskeyCavalier.

Have you made friends in the fandom?

I made so many kind, supportive friends. A few old friends from the Castle fandom watched Whiskey Cavalier as well. But I made many new friends on both Facebook and Twitter. We were called #FriskeyHeads by one of the writers, Dean Lopata.

Have you attended any fandom events? Which ones?

Whiskey Cavalier was canceled very quickly for me to get a chance to meet up with my online friends to attend events together which I had done with my previous shows like Lois and Clark, The New Adventure of Superman, and Castle.

Have you ever read fan fiction from members of the fandom?

Yes!

What’s your favorite piece of fan fiction that you have read from the fandom?

I have a few. Inferno by FireyTribune, All The Pieces written by thesearchforbluejello, All The Pieces written by fmd_jade and “Full of Surprises” by iheartscooter85

What lengths have you gone to to save Whiskey Cavalier?

I have participated in every single campaign our fandom organized. I have sent whiskey shot glasses to WB. The fans have sent two special batches of fortune cookies with special message “#SaveWhiskeyCavalier” to Warner Brothers and Netflix. (Background story is in the last episode, Will and Frankie bought Chinese take out food at Will’s apartment. When Frankie opened the order, they didn’t get fortune cookies with the order.)

So we sent fortune cookies to change the fate of our favorite spies. Unfortunately it didn’t work. There will also be a flying banner with “ThankYouWhiskeyCavalier” at San Diego Comic Con this Saturday (7/20) at 2 PM PT.

Originally, the banner message was “SaveWhiskeyCavalier” but on 6/30, our fandom received a very heartfelt appreciation and explanation message from both creator and executive producers that our save Whiskey Cavalier campaign was officially over. So we changed the message to respect their wishes.

What lengths will you go to save Whiskey Cavalier?

I am still using #WhiskeyCavalier on twitter to keep our show alive. I am also a part of FaceBook group that actively campaigning Whiskey Cavalier season 1 to be on the new HBO Max streaming service owned by Warner Media.

Is there a charity that your fandom is supporting? Which one?

Our Facebook group has donated the funds collected for Save Whiskey campaign to Breast Cancer Foundation which Scott Foley actively supports.

Do you have anything else to add?

Whiskey Cavalier will live on in our hearts forever. I am still hoping that Whiskey Cavalier gets a proper send off whether as a movie or even a book. I am so invested in Will and Frankie’s journey. It breaks my heart that they didn’t get to live to their truest potential. I am still hoping against all hope that there will be some miracle that Whiskey Cavalier will be back in our lives.

When did you start watching Whiskey Cavalier?

The first time it aired after the Oscars.

What drew you to the show?

A friend at ABC told me about it about half a year before it was announced.

What about the show makes it so special?

Drama and comedy. The fact there are scenes which feel more like a film. I love the opening credits. The show grew on me. And I like the characters and the fact Frankie and Will have developed a relationship – without the audience waiting for years.

What was the most frustrating thing about the way Whiskey Cavalier was cancelled?

Just waiting for a decision. My friend at ABC has since explained to me the reasons—and it makes sense but I would still like the show to either be revived or become a film.

What lengths have you gone to to save Whiskey Cavalier?

I’ve called ABC, sent emails, used social media to try to get the show saved. But we are just beginning to revive it. I do have experience with two previous campaigns related to Star Trek.

What lengths will you go to save Whiskey Cavalier?

I won’t give up. We’ll try to interface with other fabrics. Use all kinds of interventions and not just on social media.

We chatted with 'Whiskey Cavalier' fans about what this ABC show means to them and how they plan to fight back against its cancellation.

Tracey

When did you start watching Whiskey Cavalier?

Since day one – as soon as it aired

What drew you to the show?

I saw advertisements on TV and it looked like my type of show – interesting, intriguing and different! The ads showed lots of action and a hint of humor. It turned out to be so much more!

What about the show makes it so special?

There is nothing like Whiskey Cavalier on television. It reminded me a little of Moonlighting from many years ago. Whiskey Cavalier has intriguing, captivating storylines mixed in with crazy unexpected twists , hilarious banter between all of the characters and fast-paced action.

Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan have amazing chemistry with each other – AND with all of the other major players of their “thrown together” investigative team. EVERY SINGLE episode makes you gasp, laugh, and THINK! I could barely wait a week for the next episode. I watch A LOT of TV – I love it! I am even a part-time actress. But this show was my NEW fave. There are not enough words to describe how authentic and captivating it is.

What was the most frustrating thing about the way Whiskey Cavalier was cancelled?

I unfortunately have had many shows cancel on me – some with major cliffhangers pending. This, though, has upset me a lot more than any others. We NEED more Will and Frankie in our lives! Their banter, teasing and underlying attraction to one another just makes it so much fun to watch.

It’s crazy and hilarious how they carry on – even while kicking the bad guys’ butts. This is a time where everyone is so busy that they want to binge watch shows in a whole weekend. I do not know how the network chooses to end a show, but it clearly is not accurate.

With all the time and trouble it takes to assemble a good cast, build elaborate sets and hire OUTSTANDING writers, why would you give up so quickly? There was no time to even advertise it to the general public. Give it time! At least two seasons. I’m amazed at the crap that somehow stays on TV (all the stupid reality shows that turn people’s brains to mush).

Have you made friends in the fandom?

Yes – they feel like family!

How did you make friends?

We are scattered all over so we “talk” on our Facebook page.

How did the show get you through dark times?

Life is stressful! There is no argument there. It is a relief – and many times a NECESSITY – to have a chance to decompress. That is why I am a big fan of good TV shows.

Comedies are difficult because they need to be funny in a way that appeals to a large audience and that can be hard. Action shows also have to appeal to a large audience without getting too involved when it’s just an hour show.

Whiskey Cavalier had comedy, action, drama – it filled EVERYONE’s needs – young. old, those who like to laugh but also to be surprised. I am not exaggerating when I say I was so sad when an episode ended. I couldn’t wait until next week!

How did the fandom support you in times of need?

One day recently I was driving to a doctor’s appointment and I passed a neighborhood with a big sign for the development – “Whiskey Creek”. I thought I was going to burst into tears. My heart is so sad and so heavy. When I got home, I posted it on Facebook and it was comforting to know others felt my sadness in the same way.

The people I have met online through our Fan page inspire me to be a better person. We are fighting for something we believe in, something we think is worth fighting for – and that bonds us. I really believe we can get Whiskey Cavalier back on the air. This fight – and hope – has carried over in other areas of my life. It feels good! Nooo…it feels GREAT!

What lengths have you gone to save Whiskey Cavalier?

I have done everything the fandom founders have asked. I talk about the show to everyone I meet. I have gotten people watching it and joining our cause. There is not anything I wouldn’t do for this show. THAT is how much I believe in it!

Where else can you watch “edge of your seat” action while laughing at the characters’ interactions and feeling a part of something AMAZING??

Jhessika

When did you start watching Whiskey Cavalier?

Since its first day on ABC.

What drew you to the show?

I’ve always loved a good spy movie, and that’s what made me give this show a chance. Watching the first episode was all it took. I instantly fell in love with all the characters.

What about the show makes it so special?

It had everything. Humor, adventure, that slow burn that EVERYBODY must see, it even had mixed cultures to it. It tried to include a little bit of everything, something we don’t really get to see in other TV shows. We also got to see such beautiful scenery.

What was the most frustrating thing about the way Whiskey Cavalier was cancelled?

The way it was taken away from us. This show has so MUCH more potential, so many more background stories to be told, to be discovered. Soooo many cliffhangers that need answers.

Have you attended any fandom events? Which ones?

Not yet!!! Hopefully we will!! So many special humans I would love to get to meet at least once personally!!!

How did the fandom support you in times of need?

We all made friendships I’m sure. I hope we get to keep it, even if we can’t bring Whiskey Cavalier back. There’s something about this show that we don’t get to see often. I’ve never been part of something like this.

What lengths will you go to save Whiskey Cavalier?

As long as we are not breaking any laws or hurting anyone I’m all up for it!! We are here for the long run!!!

Is there a charity that your fandom is supporting? Which one?

Yes!! We just recently started to support Scott’s Foley favorite, the Women’s Cancer Research Foundation

Do you have anything else to add?

I’ve been a loyal Bones fan, it’s been such a long time since I’ve fell in love with a show again. This show deserves a second chance. We fans deserves a second chance!!!

Mary

When did you start watching Whiskey Cavalier?

I watched the preview on February 24th and the season premiere on February 27th.

What drew you to the show?

I saw the cast members’ posts on social media during the filming in Prague. And I saw the commercial previews. The comedic banter and the action in the previews seemed like the show would be something worth watching.

What about the show makes it so special?

Like I said above, the comedy, the action and the pure chemistry of all of the cast. They all work well off of each other. No matter what scene they were doing. They always left me wanting more. And I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next!

What was the most frustrating thing about the way Whiskey Cavalier was cancelled?

The abrupt ending. With no closure. And really, the show was not given a chance. The time slot was odd and there really wasn’t much press about it. I saw more advertising from the fans than I did from ABC.

Have you made friends in the fandom?

Yes!

How did you make friends?

Online. But I did have a lengthy conversation with a nice lady at the local grocery store!

How did the show get you through dark times?

With each episode the show took me to wherever they were. For those few minutes, I was able to forget the real life craziness of the world’s events. It’s really something we need today. With so much negativity and pure nastiness, we need the action comedy and the “will they or won’t they kiss” television.

What lengths have you gone to to save Whiskey Cavalier?

I have tweeted so much. Prior to the show I had only tweeted a few times. I’ve called studios, mailed handwritten letters and postcards, even sent shot glasses to Netflix! And I have created many videos and gifs.

What lengths will you go to save Whiskey Cavalier?

Oh I don’t know…get a tattoo of a whiskey glass that says “Hope Dies Last”! Join a sit in at Warner Bros Television! There’s so much that I would do and less of what I wouldn’t do!

Is there a charity that your fandom is supporting? Which one?

Yes. At this time it’s The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

How has your fandom helped support that charity?

We are attempting to raise $1,000.00 .

Do you have anything else to add?

Just that it’s really sad that the show wasn’t given the chance to grow. There are so many fans out there and it seems like the “powers that be” continue to look away and ignore us. The people, the fans are the ultimate base for the networks to gain profit for their shows. And I believe that had the advertising been better, the show would have gained so much.

I have seen so much fan created merchandise being bought and sold and nothing from the owners of the show. So again, there is profit to be made. And they really need to reconsider filming a season two. They need to face it….The Whiskey Cavalier Fandom isn’t going anywhere.

Lenlee

When did you start watching Whiskey Cavalier?

February 27th, 2019

What drew you to the show?

I saw a commercial for it on ABC and thought it looked like a show I would enjoy.

What about the show makes it so special?

The writing was top-notch. The Chemistry between the actors was amazing. The show was very quick-witted and entertaining and the scenery was gorgeous.

What was the most frustrating thing about the way Whiskey Cavalier was cancelled?

It ended on a cliffhanger and we will never know what happens. And on top of that I’m tired of shows that are nowhere near as good being renewed and shows that have intelligent fun storylines get cut over and over again.

Have you attended any fandom events? Which ones?

We have a watch party on Wednesdays because we refuse to give up watching our show even if it’s only in reruns.

What lengths have you gone to to save your show?

I learned how to tweet. I have never tweeted before and I filled out surveys and voted online. I also contributed to send fortune cookies to executives trying to keep them from canceling the show.

Do you have anything else to add?

I just wish that networks would give shows a chance instead of canceling them right off the bat. This has happened with several of the shows that I have enjoyed over the years. You would think that if they have invested all this money in it, they would want to give it a fighting chance.
