Why Barchie, not Jughead and Betty, are ‘Riverdale”s endgame

What if, truly, Betty and Archie are the real 'Riverdale' endgame? Here are our reasons for a Barchie endgame on 'Riverdale'.

Why Barchie, not Jughead and Betty, are ‘Riverdale”s endgame

Ah Riverdale, we wish we can quit you sometimes with your weird plots and strange relationship to continuity. Now, however, the love dodecahedron that is the Riverdale relationships is reigniting Barchie aka Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Archie (KJ Apa). Now Jughead and Betty fans are, obviously, not to thrilled by any hint of their favorite ship breaking up.

As always, here’s a quick reminder to not harass the actors about your fave ship. They have no control over the story. And it’s just a TV show. Enjoy it without harassing people! Now, while Jughead and Betty may most likely be endgame, we’re going to play a little bit of devil’s advocate here. What if, truly, Betty and Archie are the real Riverdale endgame?

Here are our reasons for a Barchie endgame on Riverdale.

Iconic

For the longest time, the Betty-Archie-Veronica love triangle has been one of the most iconic love triangles in the history of pop culture. While people still argue over which ship is better, Betty and Archie just have a sweet sort of iconic vibe about them. The girl and boy next door fall in love and live happily ever after.

Riverdale is like a dark AU fanfiction of those classic Archie comics. It would, admittedly, be interesting to see a focused effort in bringing some of the more iconic pairings to life. Who knows what a Betty and Archie romance would look like with time to grow?

Balance

Betty and Jughead are a couple that can bring out the best or the worst in each other depending on the scenario. It’s always a sort of high octane response to situations. After so long on living on the edge, maybe you just want someone that can balance you out. Archie, bless him, may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he and Betty can provide a good balance for each other.

Betty can hold Archie back from his more harebrained tendencies. After all that Archie has witnessed, he can give Betty the support that she needs when she feels her darker urges rear their head. Sometimes counterbalance is an important factor in a relationship.

Different loves

Not everyone ends up with their forever love with the person that they dated throughout high school. If they even had a high school relationship, to begin with. Jughead and Betty were great for each other, challenged each other, but, well, most people need to date others. Betty was in love with Archie first. They had that whole Taylor Swift in “You Belong With Me” vibe.

Is it so wrong for Betty, who clearly has some feelings for Archie and vice versa, to want to explore a different relationship? Granted, if they do decide to go down that path, then they need to end things with Jughead and Veronica respectively. But just because one character begins a series with another doesn’t mean that they should always stay with them.
