One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel wins two-season order at Netflix

Ratched, a prequel series from executive producers Michael Douglas (The Game) & Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story), has landed at Netflix with a two-season, 18-episode order. The show will star Sarah Paulson (Mud) as Nurse Ratched, the character originally seen in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Syfy’s Blood Drive canceled after season finale

“Unfortunately, your suspicions are correct. Syfy has canceled Blood Drive after one season”, announced series creator James Roland on Wednesday in a lengthy blog post, following the season finale of the grindhouse drama.

Gavin O’Connor to write & direct Suicide Squad 2

Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) will write the sequel to Suicide Squad and is also in negotiations to take over the directing reigns from David Ayer (Fury), who was involved in the first movie. The Warner Bros. film, part of the DC slate of projects, is expected to begin production next year and will again star Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto.

Veep to say farewell with season 7

The seventh season of Veep will be the last for the HBO comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld) as Selina Meyer. “We love the show and everyone involved but respect the producers’ choice to bring Selina Meyer’s journey to its conclusion after an extraordinary run of critical and award-winning acclaim”, announced Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming.

Ava actresses barred from traveling to TIFF

Travel visas for 17-year-old Mahour Jabbari and 18-year-old Shayesteh Sajadi, who star in Ava, were summarily denied by the Canadian government ahead of the film’s world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on Friday, according to the film’s director, Sadaf Foroughi.

Seth Rogen & James Franco go Dumpster Diving

Dumpster Diving, the first short film by seniors at John C. Fremont High School in South Central L.A., premiered on Aug. 31 with stars Seth Rogen (This Is the End) & James Franco (The Disaster Artist) in attendance. The comedy is part of new program called And Action!, giving local high school students opportunities to work in the film industry.
