Marriages, divorces, and scandal: The hottest quarantine celeb goss
The year 2020, so far, has impacted our relationship dynamics on an unfathomable scale. For couples – whether quarantined together or separately – this is the ultimate stress test. For others, this has been an opportunity to reconnect with families and spend some quality time together. Many are disgruntled by the change in plans, while others are rising to the opportunity.
How are our favorite celebrities faring amid the pandemic & confinement? Are they feeling the strain? Are they making new promises? Are they welcoming their little ones with crisis in the backdrop? Let’s have a look.
Hitched by design, not default
With the pandemic continuing, many celebrities have had to cancel or postpone weddings. The list includes Sarah Hyland & Wells Adams, Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom, Emma Stone & Dave McCary (although fan theories hint that they might already be married), Jennifer Lopez & Alex Rodriguez, and Varun Dhawan & Natasha Poonawala, among others.
Nevertheless some celebrities haven’t let the coronavirus foil their wedding plans. They chose to go ahead with their plans on a smaller scale – and with much less pomp. Wicked actress Amanda Jane Cooper and Andrew Bell sought refuge in technology; they got married on Zoom!
Quarterback Jameis Winston and former Rice basketball player Breion Allen got married in an intimate, private ceremony in March at their home. Sources mention they will organize a larger wedding ceremony with friends & family when possible.
It comes to us as little surprise that the lockdown has been hard on many celebrity couples. Even so, it’s shocking how many celebrity marriages have crumbled during this time.
Clueless actress Stacey Dash announced on social media in May that she’s splitting from her husband, lawyer Jeffrey Marty. Her exact words? “My husband and I have made the hard decision of ending our marriage. After much prayer, I feel this is the right path for both of us.” Reportedly, they’d gotten hitched in April 2018, just ten days after their first encounter.
Dash & Marty weren’t the first to call it quits. Boyzone singer Shane Lynch and his wife Sheena White set the ball rolling, announcing they were going at “each other’s throats”, a sassy detail he revealed in Paul Danan’s Morning After podcast. “You find out things about relationships and it can be very difficult.” He added that he hopes it’s temporary.
Former American football quarterback Jay Cutler and American TV personality and fashion designer Kristin Cavallari also announced their split after seven years of marriage. They will enjoy joint custody of their three kids.
At one point it was believed author Neil Gaiman and Dresden Dolls lead singer Amanda Palmer were divorcing. However, in May, they issued a joint statement that demurred from specific details and left things inconclusive.
The latest couple in troubled waters are Scott Disick & Sofia Richie, who have split after three years together. The details are hazy, but Disick was in a rehab treatment centre in Colorado until recently and the couple is allegedly on “texting” terms.
Another marriage to bite the dust is Mary Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy’s. Things aren’t picturesque here, with Olsen claiming Sarkozy was trying to force her out of their New York City apartment. Olsen is not going down without putting up a fight – prenuptial agreement and all.
Well, if finding love is hard, keeping the flames burning amid a lockdown is harder.
Adding to the family
In the middle of this crisis, there has been some good news too. Giving birth in lockdown and physical distancing is far from ideal, but celebrities have done it and brought cute little babies into the world.
Millie Mackintosh and Hugo Taylor welcomed their baby girl in May, comedian Hasan Minhaj became father to a baby boy, Storm & Ronan Keating welcomed their daughter Coco, and Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds too welcomed their first baby in April.
For some reason, nothing on this list compares to Tesla tycoon Elon Musk and Canadian musician Grimes, who welcomed their baby X Æ A-12 (or is it X Æ A-Xii?) Musk.
