FD News: Perverted producers, cash prize contests, and depressed directors
This Harvey Weinstein story just keeps getting more disgusting
Today, New Yorker published a report claiming that the ex-Miramax mogul isn’t only a salacious sex pest, he’s also a bonafide rapist. Ronan Farrow (activist, author, lawyer, millennial, son of Mia) wrote the report claiming Weinstein forced both oral and vaginal sex on his victims. Actress Asia Argento (daughter of Dario, ex-girlfriend of J.T. LeRoy) went on the record in the article claiming the perverted producer forced oral sex on her over 20 years ago. On the traumatic event she reflected, “[Weinstein] terrified me, and he was so big. It wouldn’t stop. It was a nightmare.” The incendiary feature features several other women on the record discussing their experiences of the producer’s abuse. Meanwhile, The Guardian published a piece highlighting the “Old Boys’ Club” in Hollywood, claiming they tried to speak to 20 A-list actors who have worked with Weinstein – all of whom declined to comment.
WeScreenplay accepting entries in Diverse Voices competition
A tiny break from bad news: WeScreenplay’s Diverse Voices screenwriting contest will be closing next week. Winners gain industry connections, script coverage, and $1000 in cold, hard federal reserve notes. Or probably a digital transfer of some type but you get the idea.
Last Jedi director hates being misquoted
On Sunday, a fan tweeted Rian Johnson (Looper, 3 episodes of Breaking Bad, banjo player) asking if the new Star Wars trailer was spoiler-free. The director replied, “I (am) legitimately torn. If you want to come in clean, absolutely avoid it. But it’s gooooood . . . .” Now he’s got his knickers in a knot, as yesterday the internet had a field day taking his quote out of context – we know, that never happens on the internet! The livid director has taken to Twitter to personally respond to leading headlines; this doozy to The Daily Express was our favorite: “Seems to be a whole bunch of clickbaity jiggery pokery going around.” Doesn’t look like Johnson will be moving into a second career as a social media professional anytime soon.
