Guillermo del Toro’s Fantastic Voyage delayed

Principal photography on Guillermo del Toro’s Fantastic Voyage, a remake of the eponymous 1966 sci-fi classic, has been pushed to start shooting later next year to allow the filmmaker additional time to complete post-production on his upcoming release The Shape of Water.

Carnival Row lands on Amazon

The drama, starring and executive-produced by Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean), has been given an eight-episode straight-to-series order at Amazon. The show is described as a “fantasy noir set in a neo-Victorian city with mythical creatures fleeing their war-torn homeland.”

Blade Runner 2049 short film unveils Jared Leto’s character

To give fans a little more to be excited about as they wait for the upcoming sequel to Ridley Scott’s original sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner, a series of short films is being released by Warner Bros. leading up to the premiere of Blade Runner 2049 in October. The first short, titled 2036: Nexus Dawn and starring Jared Leto & Benedict Wong (The Martian), has just been released on Collider and reveals more on Leto’s mysterious character, scientist Niander Wallace.

The acclaimed New Zealand director Dame Jane Campion (The Piano) will receive the Film Award Cologne, the annual prize awarded for “outstanding contribution to the further development of film and media through their work”.

DC’s Shazam! swoops into pre-production

The DC Extended Universe has yet another movie, Shazam!, beginning production. Director David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) posted on day one of pre-production with a very tongue-in-cheek, minimalist Instagram pic.

Christopher Robin Disney movie has its Piglet

Nutcracker and the Four Realms star Nick Mohammed will be voicing Piglet in the upcoming adaptation of A.A. Milne’s time-honored Winnie the Pooh tales. Disney’s Christopher Robin will star Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting 2) in a modern take on the characters that will blend live-action with CGI animation.
