A boy swallows a cursed talisman (a demon’s finger) and curses himself. He enters a shaman’s school so that he can locate the other parts of the demon’s body and thus exercise himself. However, this is the general scenario, the truth is there’s a sad love story behind it. Yuta Okkotsu promised his friend Rika Orimoto to marry her when they grew up, yet Rika died in a car accident before any of this could happen.
But Rika’s spirit stayed under a curse and came back to haunt Okkotsu, transforming all their childish love into pure darkness. However, Okkotsu grew up and started attending the Tokyo Metropolitan Magic technical college. In this place, he met his classmates Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki, and Panda who would also be his allies fighting the course.
On the way to break the course, Suguru Geto, who is the cursed user, appears at college. Geto has the dream of creating a world made of shamans and appears to announce that the Hundred Demons Night Parade will start on December 24th. This is the reason why the movie was released on that date in Japan, giving a symbolic meaning far from Christmas eve.
Production details
The movie was announced after the end of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime in March 2021, it was produced by MAPPA and directed by Park Sung-hoo. On the other hand, scripts were made by Hiroshi Seko and character designs by Tadashi Hiramatsu, also King Gnu performed the theme song.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 hit Canadian & American cinemas successfully on March 18th. Only during the premiere day, which was March 17th, did the movie earn $2.88 million. In the end, cinema isn’t only about the love of art.
Nevertheless, the number of sold tickets doesn’t determine if the movie is a good one, especially on its premiere day. In fact, several box offices are made up of junk content, still, this isn’t the case with this movie.
