Say farewell to ‘Lucifer’ with the best Lucifer Morningstar moments so far

Lucifer has returned with its long-awaited back half of season 5. With it, we have more moments of Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) fumbling his way through dealing with his Daddy issues once and for all. Maybe even becoming God. While Lucifer season 5 was supposed to be the end of the series originally, it, instead, serves as the penultimate bow for the show. Season 6 is happening and will be released at some point.

Until then, however, we need to look over some of the best moments of Lucifer Morningstar, who has won legions of dedicated fans the world over. With the rest of season 5 out, it’s time to salute our favorite devil with some of the best moments on his titular series. So here are the very, very best moments of Lucifer Morningstar on Lucifer over the years.

This contains spoilers for Lucifer season 5B.

Lucifer’s introduction

Lucifer season 1 was very much getting into the groove of things. People were trying to figure out what they wanted the show to be. Actors were getting into the vibe of their characters. It took a bit of time for everything to really hit its stride with Lucifer, but one thing that never needed time to click with audiences? Tom Ellis’ dynamite portrayal of the character.

From the opening scene with Lucifer speeding his car as Cage the Elephant’s “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” plays? We immediately were on board with Ellis’s excellent portrayal of the Devil. Honestly, the series probably would have lived & died by how well Tom Ellis was as the titular character. But, oh, he slipped into Lucifer in the best way possible.

Lucifer’s conversation with God

We’re not talking about the talks that our favorite Devil has with God (Dennis Haysbert) in season 5B. No, no, no. This conversation comes all the way back in season 1 after Lucifer’s new priest friend, Father Frank, is murdered. It’s, honestly, one of the more visceral moments of the series as he grieves and shouts at a softly glowing sky about how life is unfair.

There’s something so powerful about the moment, seeing an anguished Lucifer trying to figure out why bad things happen to good people. We think it’s a turning point of the series as well, showcasing some of the growth that Lucifer had done over the seasons.

Lucifer goes to Hell (for good?)

Season 4 brings us some amazing Lucifer Morningstar moments. Another absolute climax for his character came at the end of the season. Following sending the demons back to Hell and saving his baby nephew, Charlie, Lucifer decides to return to his domain to rule. The decision is definitely a sort of full circle moment for the character, who returned out of love for his found family and for Chloe (Lauren German).

Honestly, it’s one of the most heartbreaking moments of the series. But it’s also a moment that showcases the majority of Lucifer’s growth. He gives himself up, goes back to Hell, in order to protect those people that he truly loves and cares for. He grows, but he doesn’t lose what makes Lucifer, well, Lucifer.

Lucifer helps a soul get to Heaven

Mr. “Said Out Bitch” is one of the best recurring characters in the series, whose death at the start of season 5 led to some excellent moments with our favorite crime solving devil. Either way, he told his sort of friend about the trick for getting out of his Hell loop. How he needs to face his guilt in order to be truly free. He leaves him there and we never get an answer.

At the end of season 5, we see Lucifer falling to Heaven where the first soul he helped leave Hell is waiting for him to help Lucifer get to Chloe in Heaven. It’s a small moment, but a powerful one. Because it shows that a damned soul can be redeemed, just as the devil can fall in love, an angel can have a baby, and a demon can grow a soul.
