How did Gabby Petito’s murder lead the FBI to more bodies?

Of course, missing/murdered person cases are never something to take lightly. But what happens when there’s a benefit out of such a horrific circumstance? It’s interesting to think about Gabby Petitio’s murder leading the FBI to discover more bodies. Suspected human remains and items belonging to Brian Laundrie were found in a Florida park, according to the FBI.

Yes, what appears to be human remains & belongings once going to Brian Laundrie, including a backpack, have been recovered in the Carlton Reserve in North Port, Florida, according to FBI Special Agent in Charge Michael McPherson. Another one of the items recovered was a notebook once belonging to Laundrie, who McPherson said was “a person of interest in the murder of Gabby Petito.”

These apparent remains were discovered in an area that had been underwater until recently, the agent added. According to a source close to the investigation, CNN was informed that the apparent human remains “appear to have been there for a while.” “Based on the condition of the remains, it may take some time to officially identify. It is going to be a very thorough process with the medical examiner.”

With cases like these, it’s more important than ever that the public is given answers. The discovery of more bodies — on one hand — implies more tragedy, but on the other hand — it paves the way for more answers. Eventually, investigators want to be able to close the cases. How did Gabby Petito’s murder lead the FBI to uncover more bodies?

Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park

The North Port police spokesperson Josh Taylor announced that the remains were discovered “about two to three miles inside the Carlton Reserve, or about a forty-five minute walk” from the entrance at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.

Steve Bertolino, who’s a family attorney, told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that the Laundrie parents, while making their first visit to the park since its reopening, assisted with the discovery. He said, “As happenstance was, they stumbled upon these items.”

More bodies

Amid the almost two-month-long search for Gabby Petito and her financé Brian Laundrie, the remains of at least four other people were found. The bodies were discovered in areas where authorities were looking for the couple.

The body of an unidentified homeless man was found inside a dumpster behind a grocery store in Mobile, Alabama. Police were given a tip that Laundrie had been spotted in the area, though police later ruled out any link between the two.

The body of Robert Lowery, from Texas, was unveiled at the base of the Teton Pass in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest forty miles from where Gabby Petito’s body was found. During Gabby’s search, the police received red flag tips leading to his remains being located.

Josh Calderon’s body was found in Watauga County, North Carolina. Laundrie had been the subject of several unconfirmed sightings within the area. And the body of Sara Bayard was found off a highway in Douglas County, Colorado. Gabby & Brian had shared Instagram photos from the area during their travels, according to the New York Post.

“Creepy Man”

It later emerged in the headlines that that eyewitness placed a 911 call about a heated argument between Laundrie & Petito that took place outside a grocery store where Schulte had worked. Shortly before the couple’s death, Schulte & Turner told a family member the couple was leaving the campsite because of a “creepy man.”

Investigators later said they are not ruling out a connection between Brian Laundrie and the double murder.

It’s important to talk about Gabby Petito and any case like this, but let us not forget that hundreds of Indigenous girls & women came up missing in the same area, and are not getting the attention they deserve. Share your discussions & condolences in the comments below!
