‘Money Heist’ season 5: All the reasons we hope Arturo will be in it
Every show needs a character that you love to hate. In Money Heist, Netflix’s gripping Spanish crime drama, that character is Arturo Roman. Arturo has had a role in Money Heist from season 1, and he’s been bringing outrage to viewers ever since.
Arturo is the general director of the Royal Mint of Spain before the first heist. During the heist he is an insufferable hostage who insights many uprisings & reeks all kinds of havoc. In this latest season, he willingly becomes a hostage as the crew tries to rob the Bank of Spain.
Arturo’s actions risk everyone’s life many times, but that’s far from his worst crime. Not only does he turn himself into a motivational speaker & “hero” for his role in the heist, he goes on to drug and rape one of the hostages. Despite how atrocious Arturo’s existence is, we hope that we’ll continue to see his grimy face in season 5. Here’s why:
To get what’s coming to him
While we’d all be okay with never seeing Arturo again, we also need to see someone bring him to justice. After Arturo rapes a hostage, we do get to see Julia (aka Manilla), one of the heisters disguised as a hostage, shoot Arturo in the leg. While this was satisfying, that’s not going to cut it.
Arturo brings us disgust in every episode and we want payback. By the end of season 4, even the hostages hate him but somehow he makes it through alive. Do we want him dead in season 5? Is that proper retribution for his scuminess?
Because of all the people he’s hurt, it seems as though viewers deserve to see either the hostages or one of the crew members make him suffer in some way. Sure, we’d like to be rid of Arturo, but we also need to see him pay. If he doesn’t have a role in season 5, we’d be neglected of the revenge we all desire so very much. We need to know what his fate is going to be in season 5.
To fill an essential role
Sometimes when watching Arturo do his thing in Money Heist, we wonder – why is he here? Why do we have to witness this atrocity of a human being involve himself in this amazing show? Well, it turns out that he really does have an important role, and thus he needs to be in season 5.
Many believe that Arturo is one of the main reasons for Money Heist’s raging success. Executive producer Jesús Colmenar emphasizes how Arturo is relatable to viewers, saying, “He represents the meanness within all of us. You recognise certain base passions of the viewers themselves in Arturo – and that’s why you can’t stand him.”
While it’s easy to point to Arturo and say that he’s the absolute worst, it’s important to recognize why he is and what he represents. Arturo has some core beliefs that many share. Not to mention, there is a whole lot of vanity out there, and Arturo is an emblem for all of us.
To have a proper end
If Arturo is an example of human shame, then we need to see what comes of him. As a rapist and just a terrible human being, Arturo can’t redeem himself. But what is going to happen to him? Death? Prison? Nothing?
We’re looking forward to many things in season 5, but without exploring Arturo’s story, Money Heist would be lacking. But because he’s had a key role in their success, it’s likely he’ll be sticking around. That is somehow both good and very bad news for anxious Money Heist fans.
