Autumn in My Heart

Oh boy, this classic Korean drama is both regarded as a tearjerker and one mess of confusing connections and emotions. Following a mix-up in the hospital, two baby girls are switched at birth: one raised with a wealthy family and the other in poverty. In the teenage years, the mistake is revealed and the girls go back to their birth families. Ten years later, one of them runs into her “older brother” and, well, they fall in love.

It has all the makings of a Greek tragedy, except it’s Korean. Autumn in My Heart may be 20 years old, but it remains essential viewing for any fan of K-dramas. Just keep all of the tissues on hand.

Summer Scent

A cousin series to Autumn in My Heart, Summer Scent is part of Yoon Seok-ho’s “Endless Love” franchise series. While Autumn in My Heart is like the Titanic of the bunch, Summer Scent is a bit…gentler. Years after the death of his girlfriend, an artist (Song Seung-heon) returns home from Italy where he meets the woman (Son Ye-jin) who received said girlfriend’s heart in a transplant.

Her heart skips oddly around this new man in her life, despite the fact that she’s getting married. Summer Scent story unfolds, weaving a heartbreaking tale of love from beyond, grief, accepting death, and trying to live your life in the after.
