Is Apple’s iOS 15 update a huge disappointment?

We’re always looking forward to Apple’s latest releases. They give us a glimpse into the future of technology, making us think about everything we can look forward to as the generations past. We know iOS 15 as Apple’s fifteenth major release of the iOS mobile operating system developed for the iPhone and iPod Touch lines.

iOS 15’s release was announced at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 7, 2021. As the successor to the iOS 14, the iOS 15 is expected to be published in fall this year. This latest installment is compatible with the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, as well as the iPhone 11 including the Pro and Pro Max, and the iPhone Xs.

You could even download the iOS 15 Beta right now. Just go to the Settings, to General, then Profile. You’ll then tap on iOS 15 & iPadOS 15 Beta Software Program and tap Install. Then you’ll want to open Settings, then go to General. Click Software Update and you should see the Public Beta. Tap Download and Install.

Through a mere glance, you’ll have redesigned notifications, text recognition in images, ID cards in Wallet app, added privacy features, Safari, Maps, Weather and Notes app redesigns. We can look forward to Spatial Audio and SharePlay in FaceTime calls with the ability to “Focus” for subsiding distractions. It sounds great but what’s all this talk about the update being a huge disappointment?

MacBook Pro

There are a few reasons people are a little dismayed with the iOS 15 update. One of them is the fact that there’s no new MacBook Pro. The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) usually revolves solely around software. But hardware can be a nice surprise. Talks in the first few weeks of WWDC came from Jon Prosser. People were sure a new MacBook Pro was going to be released.

But it turns out that the sixteen inch MacBook Pro to use M-series chips will have to wait for a little while. It’s been almost two years since the original sixteen inch MacBook Pro came out. It’s due for an update, isn’t it?

Food Tracking

Of course, we know that our health should come first and foremost. It’s not uncommon for us busy adults to think more about our futures than our current health, and that’s not good. If we’re not healthy, what quality of life can we really expect?

Another reason folks are disappointed with the iOS 15 update is the lack of food tracking in the Health app. Another rumor circulating before the conference was that the Health app was going to include native food tracking. Think MyFitnessPal. The iOS 15 Health app did get some huge updates, but food tracking is not one of them after all.

Some users prefer to keep all their health data in one place, which is why they want food tracking. It makes sense. With busy lives, it’s much easier to keep the most important information in one place.

Simplified customization

You guessed it 一 the iOS 15 comes with no simplified customization. iOS’ 14 counterpart provided us with some customization flexibility epitomized by the theme application icons and widgets. Users hoped to see a better and more simplified customization process in the iOS 15. But Apple did not deliver it.

It brought huge changes to FaceTime and some improvements to messages, but not everyone finds these practical. It appears the iOS 15 only enhances existing features without adding many important new features. We can see why some fans are disappointed.
