Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023) Reviews: Big heart and big fun, Shazam continues to put a smile on your face with family-friendly comedy, and jam-packed action scenes that you can actually see what is happening and enjoy.
Helen Mirren is fabulous as always and is clearly having a great time chewing the scenery. Lucy Liu is terrifying and fierce despite her stock dialogue. Djimon Hounsou gets to take care of the laughs for the adults. The rest of the kids in the family and parents also get their fair share of screen time.
The sound of huge and perfect for big-screen entertainment. The special effects design is fun and creative even if some of them are not flawless, due to the fantasy aspect of the story they work. The Dragon is hot!
Not as laugh-out-loud as the first film, but it’s still a satisfying sequel that even has a few teary eyes moments. The script is not perfect, but the pacing and humour still hold up. They wrap it up with a satisfying, nice ending and a very funny post-credit scene (if you have watched certain DC shows). The second post-credit scene however seems a little presumptuous on there being a sequel and not necessary to stick around for.
