PREDICTION: JACK DELLA MADDALENA vs. RANDY BROWN
Maddalena faces a significant test, and if he performs in the same dominant manner, he will quickly move up to the top 10. In order to counter Brown’s five-inch reach and four-inch height advantage, he will need to use all of his boxing technique.
Brown is a good striker in his own right and makes good use of his reach. With competent wrestling and strong Brazilian jiu-jitsu as a brown belt, he is also significantly more well-rounded. It would be good for him to vary his offense so that Maddalena would eventually turn against him.
The Australian has a strong grappling defense, as we saw in the bout with Emeev, and it is only getting better. The less chance Brown has the longer this is on the feet. The level of Maddalena’s striking allows him to read the range, start aiming for the body with both hands, and get ready to uncork on the grill.
It’s difficult to predict the outcome of this bout, especially if Brown plans to take Maddalena to the ground. If you take into account the odds, he is a no-brainer; nevertheless, because Maddalena is fighting on her home ground and has the advantage of momentum, we are leaning toward her.
