Gen Z vs. Millennials: Somehow not the weirdest part of 2020

Ah, the generational wars! Going back to when the Boomers were the Millennials’ age, older generations rained down on younger ones, only to dish out the same heat on younger generations once they aged. Usually, this takes a while, but it seems like the war between Gen Z. vs. Millennials has already begun.

Do words like spoiled, lazy, coddled, and entitled feel like words that describe Millennials? Guess what? Newspapers in the 60s described Boomers, the old generation known for not understanding technology and liking mayo too much, the same way. Gen X was dubbed “the slacker generation” in the 1990s. Is it too early for Gen Z, or no?

It should be Gen Z’s turn, but no! Gen Z is woke and killing it. From protests to dancing on TikTok, it turns out Gen Z doesn’t have time for generational feud nonsense. Instead of waiting to be punched down, they’re punching up at Millennials. Here’s the basics of Gen Z vs. Millennials.

Gen Z: Pictures of food

When Instagram hit, Boomers complained about Millennials taking pictures of their food. Now, Gen Z is wondering why they have to see their Millennials’ cousin’s lunch every day on Instagram.

Gen Z gets it, Millennials know how to make a sandwich. We don’t need to know what everyone between the ages of 25 and 40 made for dinner. It’s old now.

Gen Z: Isn’t #adulting what you’re supposed to do in your 30s?

Sorry Millennials, you don’t get a cookie for folding your laundry anymore. Yes, mundane adulthood tasks that Mommy hasn’t done for you in years are boring, but shouldn’t you be used to it? Do you hear your Gen Z little brother complaining about taking the trash out?

Gen Z: No, I don’t care what House I’m in

Is it a house that keeps us from having to sleep in a cardboard box? If not, why should we, Gen Z care? We have better things to worry about than if we’re in Hufflepuff or whatever. So maybe you could cut the escapism, Millennials, and focus on real issues, like the world being a dumpster fire that we’re going to have to inherit?

Millennials: A bad case of arrested development?

It seems like no matter who you ask, Millennials are perpetual children living in their Neverland of no responsibilities. Actually, Millennials are adults under forty, they’ve already joined the workforce. Thanks to stagnant wages, crushing student loan debt, and a bare-bones job market, Millennials work long hours and still live in Mom’s basement.

Millennials: Let us have our fun!

Honestly, the world is a trash fire and we Millennials have known this longer than Gen Z’s been alive. The only sanity we have is the sweet remnants of our childhood. Maybe Gen Z hates us, but Harry Potter is forever and Tommy Pickles is one button-click away from welcoming us on another epic baby adventure, even if it’s just a Rugrats binge.

Millennials: We’re only on TikTok because we’re bored

We know Gen Z, you want us off your TikTok. Trust us, we’d love to once we’re let back outside. Since we’re “bored in the house and we’re in the house bored” with the rest of humanity, we have to put up with your stupid TikTok Dances.

However, if you want a Gen Z. vs Millennial dance-off on TikTok, we’re down. We had cooler dances back in our day, we’d be glad to bring them back!

Will the battle of Gen Z vs. Millennials continue, or will they join forces and go back to punching up at Boomers?

  • I love how articles like this (among many others) leave no mention of Gen-X. Being an off-the-radar Gen-Xer has been awesome.
