Want some free Netflix? Here’s how to stream for free this weekend
Being hailed as a “binge-watching extravaganza”, Netflix’s StreamFest is one of the most anticipated events of 2020. Netflix has been toying with the idea of attracting new customers to the platform with quirky marketing techniques for a while now. With the StreamFest, it has put these abstract plans into motion.
The streaming platform decided to kickstart the marketing campaign with India, which comprises a huge chunk of its current user base. For the weekend of December 5th & 6th, Netflix is available for free for everyone in India. They don’t need to have an account with the platform previously. In fact, unlike in the one-month trials, the StreamFest doesn’t even require you to furnish your card details etc.
As a part of the StreamFest, there aren’t any strings attached. People can choose to watch anything from the extensive library of the streaming platform – choose from Lucifer, BoJack Horseman, Ozark, The Queen’s Gambit, Ragnarok, Stranger Things, Never Have I Ever, The Crown, Black Mirror, Outlander, Schitt’s Creek, Lust Stories, and a host of other genres, including but not limited to stand-up comedy specials.
How exactly can Netflix be accessed for free?
In order to sign in, Netflix will ask for your contact number or email address. Once you sign in, the entire catalogue of the streaming platform – movies, TV series, documentaries – will be at your disposal, without any limitations, just like it’s freely available for subscribers. Features like downloading, parental controls, etc will also be available.
Basically, the idea is to give users the feel of the platform in its entirety. Netflix COO Greg Peters was quoted as saying about the StreamFest, “An idea we’re excited about — and we’ll see how it goes, we think that giving everyone in a country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have. Really creating an event, and hopefully, get a bunch of those folks to sign up.”
He added, “We have been working really hard to try and make our offering in India more competitive, more attractive to members and members-to-be, and there’s a bunch of different product features we’ve been doing, partnerships and payments integrations.”
How to watch Netflix for free
For people based in India, they can visit the official site at https://www.netflix.com/in/streamfest. All it asks for you to access all of the content library & features like profiles, Netflix in Hindi, downloads etc is your contact details, that is, either your phone number or email address. As mentioned before, access to Netflix comes with the entire Netflix experience for the users.
At the same time, it’s important to note that Netflix is bringing the StreamFest on standard terms: you get the standard display definition & cannot share your account with anyone. At the expiry of these two days, you will have to buy a plan if you wish to continue to access the content library of the streaming platform. Think of this as a taster – if you want to enjoy the full meal, then you’re required to get on a paid plan.
What is “Netflix StreamFest is at capacity”?
Turns out that Netflix underestimated just how many people would be logging in the avail this generous offer of free access to all the Netflix content. Thus, the StreamFest reached its capacity cap much, much sooner than envisaged.
Soon enough the website sharted showing “Netflix StreamFest is at capacity” message & directions for deferring the two days’ worth of free access. The website asks you to submit your contact details so that you can be contacted at a later date to enable you to access the content library for free. They promise they “will send you a reminder within the next week for 2 days of free Netflix.”
Then, all you have to do is wait & watch, pun intended.
