Binge on a budget: All the ways you can enjoy streaming movies for free
Since the days of only telling stories around a campfire, tales have shown us time and time again that stories are a part of our nature like pages in a book. We’re all like books – without our stories, we’re nothing. Between books, plays, films, and shows, it’s certainly no surprise that storytelling is a multi-billion dollar industry!
When the pandemic began, we all thought we’d be watching a lot more shows & movies and indeed we did. But some of us rely on the free-to-air broadcast channels and thus, were a bit disappointed if income was affected. Many regular shows were cancelled due to the pandemic. Of course, productions had to be put on hold. Now we’re experiencing a rise of repeats. Thankfully, there’s Netflix!
Are you strapped for cash? Every penny counts and understandably, you’re interested in streaming movies for free. There is good news. There are ways we can stream shows & films that are not only free but legal and safe. We’ve gathered some great options for adding some variety to your money-saving platforms!
Pluto TV
We all get a little nostalgic at times! There are places we can go when we’re feeling this way. Based in the United States and owned by Viacom, Pluto TV is one of the greatest options for streaming free movies. It’s a free, advertiser-supported streaming platform chiefly offering a selection of content through “channels” that were made to mimic the experience of traditional live TV.
(Streaming is giving us a new tradition but again, we all get nostalgic at times!) With Pluto, you won’t be able to stop or start a show at your own time, you’ll have to “tune in” at the right time just like in the old days. However, they offer a great selection of on-demand movies to enjoy the next movie night.
Streaming free movies on Pluto can’t be done on a desktop computer, but there’s a free app for your iOS, Android as well as Amazon devices. And you can cast to your TV through the Amazon Fire Stick.
PopcornFlix
Streaming free movies on PopcornFlix gives you the experience of free ad-supported streaming video of feature-length, mostly independent, movies, and webisodes. You won’t have to sign up for anything. All you’ll have to do is watch the film in your browser, Playstation, or Xbox. You could cast it to your television through the Amazon Fire Stick.
The platform is currently unavailable if you live outside of North America.
Quibi
Of most of the platforms for streaming free movies, Quibi is the baby. It’s a new service launched on April 6th, 2020, providing seven-to-ten minute pieces of American drama, reality, and news entertainment to your mobile device, made for your free time throughout the day.
All the content has been specially filmed so you can watch the content in vertical or horizontal mode, whichever way is most comfortable for you. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to cast it to your TV. A tablet is the largest screen you’ll be able to see Quibi on. But of course, there is still plenty of loud and vivid content to be enjoyed.
You’ll have ninety days to watch your favorites for free!
Britbox
We’ve all heard about the perk of traveling all over the world through books. Of course, this applies to a great book as well but shows & movies leave nothing to the imagination. Anyone in the mood for vintage British shows can turn to the Britbox. The streaming platform is home to all the boxset classics in one place, and many more.
From sitcoms to crime dramas, comedies, historical, BBC to ITV, there’s something for everyone. And if you’re outside the United Kingdom, it’s a wonderful platform to catch up on the latest episodes of British shows.
