Empire producer developing two drama projects for Fox

Two new drama projects from Empire producer Ilene Chaiken might be coming to Fox. The network is said to have commissioned a pilot episode for the first, while the second is a script order with a hefty bounty.

Melissa Scrivner-Love (Person of Interest) is attached to write the first, Mrs. Otis Regrets which will follow FBI agent Clementine Otis, who is publicly shamed when her affair with a government official threatens an ongoing terrorism investigation.

The second project is for Triage, a medical drama which will explore the friendship between two medical students, charting the development of their career from 2008 through to 2028. Chaiken will write the script.

Both projects appear to be in safe hands with Chaiken’s involvement, who has also worked on Hulu’s Emmy-winning The Handmaid’s Tale and The L Word.

Marvel at Asher Angel in DC’s Shazam!

Whiz! Bang! Shazam! DC has found its new Billy Batson in the form of Asher Angel (Andi Mack), who has been cast to star in David F. Sandberg’s forthcoming superhero flick, Shazam!

The news comes soon after Zachary Levi (Chuck) was cast as the title character, with Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service) believed to be involved in discussions to feature as the antagonist.

Despite the rather abysmal reception DC has experienced with its cinematic universe well, except for Wonder Woman – the news does reaffirm their commitment to continuing to strike superhero gold. But can the mighty Shazam compete with the likes of Thor: Ragnarok? That’ll remain to be seen.

Ex-employee accuses Paramount Pictures of discrimination

Following her dismissal from Paramount Pictures, Megan Colligan is pursuing legal action against the studio, claiming gender bias and discrimination as the reasons for her sacking.

After a long run of flops such as Ghost in the Shell and Baywatch, Paramount announced a shake-up at the studio which saw the ousting of Megan Colligan as head of worldwide marketing and distribution.

Bryan Freeman, an attorney for Colligan said, “I can tell you Megan isn’t the only person within Paramount’s senior executive women who I have spoken to about gender discrimination”. Jeez. Looks like more trouble is inbound for the studio.
